Sunday Stealing – Let's Blog about Blogging

Sunday Stealing – Let's Blog about Blogging

About Blogging

1. When are you at your blogging best – a.m. or p.m.?  I answer questions

at night and read blogs in the mornings.

2. How many blogs do you have? Please include the links in your answer.

I had a couple of blogs before this one, but I do not have those available

anymore. I had a picture blog here and when I taught ECSE, I had a

teacher blog here. I haven't done anything with those blogs in years.

3. Do you prefer silence when you compose your posts and write your comments?

YES!  I get up before everyone and blog at that time.  I can't concentrate

if there is noise.

4. What's the grossest thing you've ever spilled on your keyboard?

pepsi...sticky.  Just a few drops.

5. Ever posted while intoxicated?  no.

Saturday 9: Jive Talkin' (1975)

Jive Talkin'

Saturday 9: Jive Talkin' (1975)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

This month we're going to recall Summer Songs. These will all be records that topped the charts during August.

1) Number 1 on the charts in August 50 years ago, "Jive Talkin'" was originally called "Drive Talkin'," because it was inspired by the "chunka-chunka" sound the Bee Gees' car made as it rolled over the bridge from Biscayne Bay to Miami every morning. Tell us about a drive you make regularly. What do you love, or hate, about it?  My drive to my job is very pretty.  Once you get out of the town I live in, you pass a cute restaurant and a coffee truck, then you drive into trees, both sides are trees and it is so peaceful and beautiful.  I do find myself praying all of the way though because deer jump out and sometimes they are just in the middle of the road.  I have to be really alert and careful.  There are a lot of animals that jump out in the road, but deer are the most dangerous.  I don't want to kill anything or hurt myself and my car.

2) Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb always enjoyed singing together and as kids, practiced their harmonies in the bathroom because that's where the acoustics were best. Do you sing in the shower?  Sometimes when I am the only one home...which is rarely.

3) Early in their career, the brothers wrote and recorded a radio jingle for Coca Cola. If we were to peer into your refrigerator right now, would we find any carbonated beverages?  Yes, we have coke and pepsi.

4) Though their sound depended on tight harmonies, all three Bee Gees were heavy smokers, which is bad for the throat. Do you smoke? Are there smokers/vapers in your life?  Never smoked or vaped.  My mom was a chain smoker and I always thought it smelled so bad.  I never wanted to try it.

5) Robin Gibb agreed to perform on the CD Sesame Street Fever so his kids could meet Cookie Monster. Who is your favorite Muppet?  I like Elmo and Beaker.  Karl even bought me a Beaker that I set on my dresser.  When we went to Disney World, I saw a Beaker and we were going to go back and get him, but we didn't.  It was a regret (a fun memory) and so Karl found me one.

6) In addition to younger brother Andy, who also scored hit records, the Bee Gees have a sister, Lesley. Unlike her siblings, she didn't go into show business. Instead, she became a dog breeder. Tell us about a dog who holds a special place in your heart.  Well, I will go with Meisha.  She is the only dog we have left.  I am not sure if we will get more dogs after she passes.  It is so hard to lose them.  They bring so much joy though.  Meisha showed up during a snowstorm just before Christmas.  She was a puppy.  We kept her.  I think she belonged to the neighbor, but I don't think they wanted puppies.  They were coming to get her and they saw us getting ready to bring her in our house and they went back home.  She will turn 15 in December.

Let's look at the summer of 1975.

7) That summer, producer Lorne Michaels was auditioning talent for the Not Ready for Prime Time Players. This band of comedic performers would premiere that October in a new show called Saturday Night Live. In the days before DVRs and streaming, Saturday Night Live was considered "appointment television," a show you wanted to catch when it aired so you made sure you were in front of a TV to hear "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!" Is there a show you go out of your way to watch when it airs? Or is most of your viewing either recorded or streamed?  Not really.  I have the streaming services and I watch shows that way.

8) The top movie at the box office that summer was Jaws. Have you seen it?  yes

9) In 1975, Jim Palmer of the Baltimore Orioles was having a career season and won the second of his three Cy Young Awards. In 2012 he put all three trophies up for auction. As proud as he was of the awards, he said, "My priorities have changed," and the money would help pay for college for his grandchildren. Think about your belongings. Is there anything you would never part with at any price?  I would not part with the things that my belonged to family.  My Granie made me so many Christmas items and quilts.  They are not worth anything but have sentimental value to me and that is priceless.

Tuesday 4 Meme- Shall We Cook?

Shall We Cook?

Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 kept in memory of her.

Let's talk about food this week shall we?

Most people enjoy eating good food after all.

1.What is/are your favorite foods to eat ?  Mexican

2.How often do you cook at home and what kind of  meals do you make? 4-5 days a week we eat at home.  I enjoy making burritos, spaghetti, tacos, roast, meatloaf, lasagne.  Karl makes a lot of our chicken dishes.

3. When you go out to eat what foods do you find yourself ordering most? burgers or burritos.

4. Can you recommend a restaurant in your area?  Why do you like it?  My friend Kat and her husband drove across America a few years ago and when they came to visit, I picked Lambert's Cafe to take them to.  There are a couple...I believe there are two in Missouri and 1 in Alabama.  They serve Southern comfort food...fried chicken, meatloaf, chicken fried steak, bbq ribs.  They have really good food, but I quickly realized that they serve food that Kat and her husband were not used to.  They are originally from California and live in Idaho now.  Lambert's is home of the throwed rolls.  They throw home made rolls for you to catch and eat, they bring around what are called pass arounds and you just get as much of that stuff as you want.  They have items like macaroni and tomatoes, fried okra, fried potatoes.  I honestly usually eat the rolls and pass arounds and take the food I order home.  They give you so much food.  I will leave a link.  Let me know what you would order.  Lambert's Menu

Sunday Stealing -- Living in the World, Not on It

Sunday Stealing -- Living in the World, Not on It

Living in the World, Not on It

1) You're on a trip taking a tour through the jungle. You have a backpack with some
food, first aid supplies, a pocket knife, a flashlight and a couple bottles of water.
Somehow, you get separated from your group. By night fall you haven't found your
group and haven't heard them looking for you. How long do you think you would be
able to survive on your own?  not long, as soon as an animal got to me, that
would be it.

2) Do you think it's okay to lie to spare someone's feelings? Why?   Yes, I
think as long as you aren't hurting them by keeping information they
need..like their spouse was having an affair or they are doing something
that will get them into trouble, but if it just something like how they do
their job or how they parent, or how they look, then it is ok.  I am
certainly no expert.

3) If a talking doll were made to resemble you, what 3 phrases would it say?
awesome, I love it, you've got this!

4) If the super power to be able to read minds at will was possible, do you think it
would be ... cool and helpful, intrusive and wrong, manipulative or maddening?
intrusive and wrong, I don't think I want to know what people are thinking
and I definitely do not want people knowing what I am thinking.

5) Are drunk confessions things people can't bring themselves to say sober or
just the  crazy ramblings of an influenced and intoxicated mind?  I think they
are things people can't bring themselves to say sober.  They can always
deny it later and say oh I was just drunk..

Saturday 9: Rhythm of My Heart

The Rhythm of My Heart

Saturday 9: Rhythm of My Heart (1991)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Rod Stewart sings that the words "I love you" roll off his tongue. When did you most recently say, "I love you?"  Today, I went to visit my mom.

2) In "Rhythm of My Heart," he recalls running down the alley with his lady love. Does your neighborhood have alleys?  no, I live in the country.

3) Rod is well known for his coif. Are you having a good hair day today?  yes, it is naturally curly and had some good volume today.

4) Rod was the youngest of 5. He remembers that, as a family, they enjoyed singing with Al Jolson records. Did your family have singalongs?  no

5) He is proud of his luxury car collection, which includes a Rolls Royce, a Ferrari and the one rumored to be his favorite: a classic mid-70s Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopio. Looking back on years as a driver and a car owner, which vehicle is your all-time favorite?  I really love the car I drove that belonged to my Granie and Papa, it was a 2002 Toyota Camry...but I am really loving my car I got in February.  It is my favorite now.  It is a 2025 Toyota Camry.  Toyota's run and run.  Josh is driving my Granie and Papa's car now.

6) Rod turned 80 this year and he's still touring. Once known for his hard partying, he takes better care of himself now and rides a stationery bike every day. What steps do you take to keep fit?  I walk, I see doctors and I go to a chiropractor.

7) In 1991, when this song was popular, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry died. Do you have a favorite Star Trek character?  no, I watched it a few times, but not regularly enough to have favorites.

8) Also in 1991, Seinfeld was a big deal on network television. Today the entire series is available to stream and on DVD. When you binge a show, are you more likely to pop in a disc or turn to a streaming service?  streaming service...I love to binge.  The last show I watched was Sullivan's Crossing.

9) Random question: Have you ever cared for a hamster or a gerbil? (Extra non-existent Saturday 9 points for its name.)  no

Tuesday 4- Wayfaring

Wayfaring

1. Where have you traveled and what is the furthest you've been from home?
We live in Missouri, so we tend to travel south to the ocean and gulf.  We have gone to Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama and Florida for vacations.  The furthest
would be would have been Tampa, FL..1,128 miles.  This is Josh and I in Florida when we went to Disney World.  It was probably around 2003.  Josh was 5.

2. Is there a location other than where you are, that you think would be a nice place to live?  I loved Alabama, but holy moly, I bet it is hot there right now...
plus hurricanes.  I live in tornado land, but I worry about hurricanes, probably
because I have not had to ride one out.  This is Josh and I in Orange Beach, AL on a dolphin tour.  Josh was 9.

3. Do you have a photo or story from a favorite place to visit?  When we went to Orange Beach, Alabama, we drive over to Pensacola, FL to see the Blue Angels.  As we were leaving to go back to our condo, I spotted the Pensacola light house.  Josh was fascinated with lighthouses at that time, so we went up in it and this is Josh and I at the top.  This was August of 2007, I think.  Josh loved that so much!

4. What dream destination do you have tucked away in  your heart? Do you think you'll be able to visit them one day or are plans in the making?  I would love to visit Italy, France and Hawaii.  We will probably not make it there though.  You never know.

I will talk a lot.
