Saturday 9: Haunted

Haunted

Saturday 9: Haunted (2013)

Unfamiliar with this week's featured song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Beyonce sings that she's sure if a man is haunting her thoughts, she must be haunting his. Who is on your mind this morning?  Usually, I say some prayers for friends that are suffering with cancer in the mornings.  I am typically thinking about them.  I also have a friend that just had knee surgery, so she has been in my morning thoughts and prayers too.  I also pray for Josh.

2) The lyrics mention her "wicked tongue." Have you said anything recently that you wish you could take back?  Oh sure.  I can't remember exactly what it was.  It wasn't ugly or anything.

3) Beyonce says her lucky number is 4. Her birthday is 9/4, her mom's birthday is 1/4 and her husband's birthday is 12/4. She chose 4/4 for her wedding day. Do you have a lucky number?  not really

4) Beyonce told an interviewer  that, while on the road, she loves to eat Popeye's fried chicken and the fast-food chain offered her free food for life. She admits she's been too embarrassed to take them up on it. If you could get free food for life from any restaurant, which restaurant would you choose?  Maybe Chili's.  There are so many things on their menu that I like and different types of food.

These questions will help us get into the Halloween spirit ....

5) Candy corn is a trick-or-treat staple. Do you like it?  yes

6) In 2019, the most popular pet costume was a pumpkin outfit designed for dogs. Have you ever dressed your pet in a costume?  I dressed Mandy up as a pumpkin one year and Josh was a pumpkin too.  I have a picture somewhere.

7) According to the Guinness Book of Records, the award for highest number of jack-o-lanterns in one place went to Keene, NH, where in 2013 there were 30,581. How many carved pumpkins will be at your home on Halloween?  Maybe one and that is if I bring it home from the school.  I will be carving a pumpkin with the kids on Friday the 28th.  That is our party day.

8) In years gone by, the Irish celebrated Halloween not with pumpkins but by carving turnips, potatoes and beets. Are any of those foods in your kitchen right now?  potatoes and maybe some pickled beets, but not just regular beets...none to carve.

9) Some Elvis fans believe they have seen his ghost hovering in the trees over Graceland. Have you ever seen a ghost? no

Tuesday 4 Meme- The End of October

The End of October

In the Catskill Mountains/Hudson Valley of New York

1. Do you give out candy on Halloween to neighborhood kids? Did you ever.. have you always?  I have not given

out Halloween candy since covid.  I live where not many kids come to trick or treat, so I just kind of never started back up giving candy.  I always did give out candy before covid though.

2. We must dress up as this Halloween.. Yes, you have to !   What will your costume be this year?  Maybe a black cat or an angel.  Nothing scary.  Last year at the preschool I dressed up as The Cat in the Hat, but I got so hot (menopause) and this year we have to walk around outside, so I am just going to dress up in a Halloween t-shirt and wear some cat ears or wolf (school mascot) ears.  I haven't decided yet.  I am leaning toward the cat ears.

3. Have you ever carved pumpkins?  Have you visited the gorgeous Hudson Valley in New York state?  We carve a pumpkin every year in my pre-k class.  We open it and I let the kids play with the pumpkin insides and then I carve it a face for our Halloween party.

4. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving takes place in Sleepy Hollow a town known today as Tarrytown, NY. a lovely town in the Hudson Valley not far from the Catskill Mountains, site of Rip Van Winkle.     The Hudson Valley is considered one of the most beautiful places in America. The Hudson separates NY from New Jersey      Do you know the Legend of Sleepy Hollow? How about Rip Van Winkle? Do you believe either could be based on true stories as some believe?  Why/ why not?  I am familiar with both stories, but I actually did not know anyone believed they were based on true events.  I am not from that location, so I always assumed it was complete fiction.

Did you have a destination in mind, or were you just enjoying the walk for its own sake?  My husband and I are going to Silver Dollar City tonight, where Josh works...it is a theme park.  They are having pumpkin days and they have pumpkins and things set up with lights everywhere.  We will do some walking there tonight (Thursday).

Saturday 9: Potential New Boyfriend

Potential New Boyfriend

Saturday 9: Potential New Boyfriend (1983)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The lyrics tell us Dolly Parton has spotted a fella who twisted her ignition key and turned her motor on. That was in 1983. Keys are less common today, since many cars are equipped with with push button ignitions and more doors now open for those who know the key pad code or have the right swipe card. What's the last thing you used a key to start or unlock?  My car.

2) Her potential new boyfriend bought her a drink and she thanked him real sweet. Have you more recently said "thank you," or been thanked yourself?  I said thank-you.  I am always saying thank-you to my kids at the school.

3) This is Dolly's first music video. "Potential New Boyfriend" was a top 20 country hit and made #13 Billboard's Dance chart, yet it's not well remembered today. Share a song from one of your favorite artists that the rest of us Sat 9-ers might not know.  I thought about sharing Been Caught Stealing by Jane's Addiction, but I kind of think some of you have probably heard of it.  The video is weird, so I will share TechN9ne's song Red Kingdom...the song of the KC Chiefs. :)  I think I first heard this song when they went to the Superbowl a couple of years ago.

4) This is not Dolly's first song about a romantic rival. Her hit "Jolene" was inspired by a bank teller who regularly flirted with Dolly's real (not potential!) husband, Carl Dean. Have you recently fallen victim to the green-eyed monster of jealousy? If yes, what were you jealous of (someone's affections, possessions, success ...)?  Not lately.  I am usually happy for other people.  I am happy with my life.

5) Dolly enjoys telling interviewers she met Carl at the Wishy-Washy Laundromat in Nashville. Do you have a hamperful of dirty clothes awaiting you? Or are you all caught up with that particular household chore?  I love to do laundry.  I do need to do some this weekend though.

6) Dolly Parton's Imagination Library makes free books available to children. It was begun in 1995, and by 2020, her charity had distributed 150,000,000 books! When you were a very young reader, what was your favorite book?  Probably something by Dr. Seuss.  I had several of his books.  I have a lot of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library books in my library at the school.  I have always worked for school district's that are in the under privileged category and get these books.  The parents have shared many of them over the years.

7) Andy Warhol was fascinated by Dolly. When he asked her what her perfect meal would include, she responded it would have to start with chicken and dumpling soup. How would you have answered Andy? What's your perfect dinner menu?  Maybe fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cob and hot rolls.  Then some kind of pie for dessert.

8) Thinking of chicken ... In 1983, when this song was popular, McDonald's introduced McNuggets. Today, it's one of McDonald's most popular menu items. Are you a fan?  not really

9) Random question: Would you rather visit a desert or a jungle?  I would enjoy visiting both, but I have a lot of friends that live close to the desert.  Maybe I would want to see what they love so much.

Tuesday 4 Meme- Books to Film

Books to Film

1. What book turned into a film did you enjoy? I liked To Kill A Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby and Crazy Rich Asians.  There are many more books to film that I loved, but I did not read the book.  The ones listed I read and watched.

2. Did you ever find the film version of a book to be better than the book or was the book better than the film and which book was it.  I feel like the book is always better.  It seems like things get left out when it is made into a movie.

3. If you could decide what book should be a movie, which would it be and who would you get to play the main characters?  I think Reece Witherspoon does a beautiful job at this.  I tend to want to see a movie about everything I read.  I just read a book called Every Summer After by Carley Fortune that would make a nice romance movie.  It is a great book if you enjoy romance.

4. Have you watched a movie and then had to go read the book or has the opposite occurred and influenced you to see the movie?  I usually read a book and then want to see a movie about it.

Once Bonnie got out to the West Coast, she realized she felt more at home and settled in the San Francisco area. 8) Also in 1994, Olympic figure skating hopeful Nancy Kerrigan was the victim of an attack. Her rival was rumored to be involved. Without looking it up, do you remember the name of that rival?  I can see her in my head, but no her name isn't coming to mind.  OH!  It is Tanya Harding right?

9) Random question -- Which of these famous Tom would you rather be seated beside at dinner: Tom Cruise, Tom Jones, or Tom Brady?  I will say Tom Cruise.  He is weird, but I like his work.   I think they would all make me nervous.
