Saturday 9- Fool on the Hill

http://samanthasaturday9.blogspot.com/

Saturday 9: The Fool on the Hill (1968)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

Chosen because Monday is April Fool's Day.

1) As an April Fool's prank, Taco Bell once announced they had purchased The Liberty Bell and renamed it The Taco Liberty Bell. Describe your perfect taco.  I like soft tacos with meat and cheese only....I know, I know...so boring.  Sour cream would be ok too.

2) Similarly, as an April Fool's prank, the Ford Motor Co. was supposed to wipe out the national deficit by purchasing the naming rites to a beloved monument, renaming it the Ford Lincoln Mercury Memorial. What model car do you drive?  Toyota Camry

3) In 1998, Burger King got in on the April Fool's Day fun by promoting a special "Left-Handed Whopper," designed to be easier for a leftie to hold. Describe your perfect burger.  This is so embarrassing...you guys are seeing what a 3 year old I really am.  I like a cheeseburger with ketchup only.

4) In 1962, when color TV was still new, a Swedish station pranked viewers by telling them they could convert their black/white sets to color by cutting up a nylon stocking and stretching it across the screen. Of course, in 1962, more women wore nylons and screens were smaller. How big is your TV? Are there any nylon stockings in your home?  55 inch...and I have some colored ankle nylons to wear with flats and slacks....not any full nylons, I haven't worn those in years.

5) In 1957, the BBC ran an April Fool's story about how the Swiss were enjoying a "bumper spaghetti crop," with spaghetti literally growing on trees. Viewers who called the station, asking how to grow a spaghetti tree of their own, were told to place a sprig of spaghetti in a can of tomato sauce and hope for the best. Have you ever fallen for an April Fool's prank?  Oh goodness yes, I hate April Fool's Day!  One time someone came in to my work and told me they hit my car.  I was like...don't worry...it's ok.  Hoping for the best of course and then they were like April Fool's Day. Meh :p

6) When Crazy Sam was growing up, her mother would surprise her on April Fool's Day by slipping a rubber worm or plastic spider in her lunch box. When you were in school, did you more frequently brown bag it or buy your lunch in the cafeteria line?  cafeteria, but I liked the lunches when I was in school...the lunches now are gross.  I take my lunch everyday.

7) This week's song was an international hit for Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66. Because of the song's bossa nova arrangement, everyone assumed the lead singer, Lani Hall, was Brazilian. She was a folk singer from Chicago. Sergio Mendes discovered her at a charity benefit. Can you think of a time when doing good really paid off for you?  I can't think of anything right now, but no matter what, I will always do the right thing.

8) In 1968, when this record was popular, Pierre Trudeau became Prime Minister of Canada. Today his son holds that office. When did you most recently visit our neighbor to the north?  I have never been to Canada.

9) Random question: Name three websites you visit every day.  Facebook, Twitter, my blog

Wednesday Medley- NATIONAL JOE DAY

http://tdorsaneo.blogspot.com/

National Joe Day - March 27

------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.  Who is your favorite "Joe/Jo" and what can you tell us about him or her?  I have an Uncle Joe.  He is my dad's oldest brother and is still living, but very sick.  He has alzheimer's...my dad also had alzheimer's.  It is such a sad disease.
2.  Who were you named for and do you or did you know that person?  I was named after my Aunt Linda...my middle name anyway..is Lynn.
3.  Do you have a middle name and do you like it/use it?  It is fine, I never use it...it is Lynn.  I mean, I do use it as my middle name, but I do not go by Lynn or call myself Lori Lynn or anything.  My dad called me Lori Lynn all of the time.
4.  Have you ever named your car?  Tell us about it, please!  I have never done that.  I had a friend in high school that did though.
5.  Tell us the name of a fictional character you have never forgotten and why you remember it so well.  Boo Radley from To Kill A Mockingbird.  I love that book and all of the symbolism, but when I was in college I dated a guy that always called me Boo because I was always looking out the window seeing what people were doing.  I did that when I was in high school too...looking for my neighbor.  I do not do it as much anymore.  I guess I am busy enough now...but I always remembered it because I think it made me look at myself and ask myself if I was too nosey.  It also made me laugh when I was in college.
6.  Share something random with us about your week.  I watched some NCAA women's basketball this week...the college I went to is in there and I was watching them.  Missouri State University.  They won, I am so excited.  We have not been in the tournament in a long time.

Sunday Stealing- Thought Provoking Questions, Part 1

https://sundaystealing.blogspot.com/

1. When was the last time you tried something new?  Last Friday when my friend and I went out to eat at the Tea House.  I tried that restaurant for the first time and I tried their coconut cake for the first time!  I have been thinking about it ever since.

3.
What’s the most sensible thing you’ve ever heard someone say?  Learn to say no.

4.
What gets you excited about life?  When I get to do things I want to do.  I am so busy working and doing things for my mom or Josh that I do not do things for myself very often.  When I went out with my friend to lunch...my mom called my house 3 times looking for me and then when I called her back she told me I could have come to her house to visit her instead. :/  I love to do things with her and I visit her every Friday, but if I plan something for myself I can never enjoy myself.  She goes out with her friends, so I do not really feel sorry for her.

5.
What life lesson did you learn the hard way?  One decision can change your whole life path.  It can be exciting too though.

6.
What do you wish you spent more time doing five years ago?  Taking care of myself and getting Josh to the doctor sooner.

7.

12.
What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?  not sure, I just do what I feel and let people judge away.

13.
Do you celebrate the things you do have?  I think so.

14.
What is the difference between living and existing?  taking chances

20.
Which activities make you lose track of time?  Facebook and YouTube

Saturday 9- Young and Beautiful

http://samanthasaturday9.blogspot.com/

Saturday 9: Young and Beautiful (2013)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Lana Del Rey wrote this song for the soundtrack of The Great Gatsby. She wanted it to reflect the feelings of Daisy Buchanan. Have you read The Great GatsbyIt is one of my favorite books...YES!

2) In the 1970s, Robert Redford portrayed Jay Gatsby. In the 2013 version, Leonardo di Caprio played the part. In real life, both "Gatsbys" have helped raised funds for the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council). Are you careful about recycling and conserving water/electricity?  We have more in the past, I am not sure what happened with recycling.  We are careful to conserve water/electricity.

3) Lana Del Rey admits that she dropped out of college because she simply could not get the required math credits. When confronted with basic addition, subtraction, multiplication or division, do you do it in your head? Reach for pencil and paper? Or do you take advantage of the calculator that's on your desktop or phone?  We are talking BASIC..in my head.

4) She enjoys Kurt Cobain, Eminem, Elvis and Sinatra. Which of those four gentlemen did you listen to most recently?  I love her taste in music.  I probably heard Kurt Cobain most recently on the radio.  They play Nirvana a lot here on my stations I listen to.

5) Speaking of Sinatras, she has described her high maintenance look -- big hair, long nails, elaborate eye makeup, full lips -- as "Gangster Nancy Sinatra." How long does it take you, on an average day, to prepare to face the world? 1 1/2 hours, but if I am really awake...I can get ready in an hour.  I struggle during the work week getting up that early, so it takes a little longer.

6) She's a big soccer fan, and her favorite team is Liverpool FC. Here in the US, college basketball fans are currently obsessed with March Madness. What's the last sporting event that you watched?  Spring Training baseball...St Louis Cardinals

7) Her younger sister, Caroline, studied photography and is responsible for some of Lana's publicity pictures. Have you ever gotten a job because of a relative?  Probably my first job I got because my parents were eager for me to work and they had a friend that was a manager at McDonalds, so I started working there when I was 15.  I believe every single other job I have had has been on my own and not knowing anyone to get the job.

8) In 2013, when this song came out, Pope Francis became the first pope from a Latin American country. Latin America generally includes Mexico, most of Central and South America, and in the Caribbean, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. What's the farthest south that you've ever traveled? San Antonio, TX

9) Random question -- What button would you prefer your life to have: rewind, fast forward or a pause? rewind and I would rewind to when I was a stay at home mom and Josh was little and happy.

Which one of those choices is your favorite?  Have you seen any yet?  My crocus and daffodils have bloomed and one of my tulips have started coming up.  I am not sure about the irises, I need to go check on them.  I kind of favor irises, I think they are so pretty and smell amazing.

Tuesday 4 Meme- Help! S.O.S.

https://mytuesday4meme.blogspot.com/

Help! S.O.S.

1.   If you were trapped in a cellar, who would you want to rescue you and why?  My husband, he always knows what to do and he makes me feel safe.  My Grandparents had a cellar and I liked to play in it, so I am not sure this would completely freak me out.

2.   If you had a flat tire on a lonely road how would you handle it?  Call my husband, I do not know how to change a tire.  He can fix everything.

3.   If you were behind an isle in a store where it was being held up what would you do?  Dial 911 and hope they would track my call.   Maybe try to whisper help.  I hope that never happens.

4.   If you saw someone being attacked would you run away, call 911, or try to help?  I would like to say I would try to help,  but people are crazy.  I would probably dial 911 and give as many details as I could.  I hope this never happens either.  If the person was getting hurt, I might make a lot of noise hoping the bad person would run away, but I would hide.  I am older and I am a chicken.

Saturday 9- Molly Malone

http://samanthasaturday9.blogspot.com/

Molly Malone

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) Are you of Irish descent?  I am adopted, so not sure.

2) Legend has it that the heroine of this week's Irish ballad was a real lass. 17th century birth and burial records confirm that a woman with that name lived in Dublin. Can you think of another song about a real historic figure?  The only song coming to mind is Elton John's Goodbye England's Rose about Princess Diana.

3) Molly sold fish from a cart that she wheeled through the streets. What's the last seafood you ate?  fish

4) The lyrics tell us that, after her death, her ghost continues to wander the streets of Dublin with her wheel barrow. Do you believe in ghosts?  I haven't had any experiences with them.

5) This week's featured band, The Dubliners, are obviously from Dublin. They were introduced to American audiences on The Ed Sullivan Show. Today, Stephen Colbert tapes his show in The Ed Sullivan Theater. Who hosted the last talk show you watched?  Probably Kathie Lee and Hoda.

6) Corned beef and cabbage is a traditional St. Patrick's Day dish. Is it a favorite of yours?  no

7) According to Irish legend, leprechauns earned the gold in the pot they guard by repairing shoes. Crazy Sam can't remember the last time she got a pair of shoes repaired. When the heels wear away, she discards the shoes and buys new ones. What about you? Do you get your shoes fixed (either by leprechauns or just by ordinary repairmen)?  I do not think I have ever had a pair of shoes fixed.  Is that expensive?  I would think it would be expensive.

8) Do you look good in green, the signature color of St. Patrick's Day?  I look ok, but I have green eyes, so I feel like that is a lot of green.  It was my favorite color in college, so I wore it all of the time.

9) Random question: Did you more recently sneeze or cough?  I believe sneeze...I am starting to have allergies.

Tuesday Medley- NATIONAL GOOD SAMARITAN DAY

http://tdorsaneo.blogspot.com/

----------------------------------------------------------

NATIONAL GOOD SAMARITAN DAY – March 13

NATIONAL GOOD SAMARITAN DAY – March 13

HOW TO OBSERVE
Make an effort to help someone who is struggling or having a problem. Use #GoodSamaritanDay to post on social media.
------------------------------------------------------
1.  When did someone come to your rescue and can you tell us about it?  Maybe my co-worker...we help each other out all of the time. We work with children that can have difficult behavior.  It is just easier to have each other to depend on for help.
2.  When did you help someone out of a jam and can you tell us about it?  See above.  I am there for my co-worker as well.
3.  What are your thoughts on being a good Samaritan?  Some states (like Florida) have even passed Good Samaritan laws so you don't get into trouble with the law for trying to help someone.  I think it is great to help people.  It is also good to have those laws to protect those that try to help.
4.  Thursday is National Pi Day.  It's a fun play on the date 3.14.  Will you have some pie to celebrate?  Probably not
5.  Did you know that Pi is the most studied number in mathematics?  Are you good with numbers?  Goodness no!  Math is my worst subject.
6.  Tell us something random about your week.  So remember Wacky Wednesday last week?  This week we are having Pirate/Prince or Princess day tomorrow.  I am going to be a Pirate.  We have also had parent /teacher conferences this week.  Next week is Spring Break.  Here is my picture of me on Wacky Wednesday.  We ended up not doing our hair pink.  My name for the day was Mrs. Frizzle and all of the kids had different old names too.
