Tuesday 4 Meme- You...

You...
It's time again for Tuesday 4 in memory of Toni Taddeo, our founder.

Let's talk about you this week.

1. How are you unique or different from your friends or family? How
typical are you?  I am the person in the family that is not very social.
My family and Karl's family are all so very social and love to get
together.  I am the person that is the first a out the door to go home.

2. How do you spend your spare time? books, hobbies, visiting, tv etc.
reading.

3. What was high school like for you?  It was good.  I was not a super
popular kid, but I was a varsity cheerleader and I had a football
player boyfriend.  My dad was a favorite teacher at the school, so
everyone was nice to me because of him.  He was a football coach too.

4. This question has multiple parts:
a. Handbag: designer style or any will do?  I am not into handbags and
purses.  I have a big teacher bag I carry most of the time.  I can fit a
lot of stuff into it.

b. Pajamas or night gown?  Pajamas

c. Shoes: sturdy or pretty ?  comfortable.  I wear mostly tennis shoes or
mocs from L.L. Bean.  I guess these are considered sturdy?

d.home decor: classic, modern, farm house style, traditional?  I will say
farmhouse.  I think our house looks very country.  We do live in the country.

e. Movies: feel good, drama, romance, action?  I like a variety.  It mostly depends
on my mood.

Saturday 9- Friends in Low Places

Friends in Low Places

SATURDAY 9: FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES (1990)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Garth Brooks tells us he wore boots to a black-tie affair. When did you most recently get dressed up? What did you wear?  I do not get really dressed up anymore, but I did dress up a bit for Open House.  I wore the jumpsuit I wore to my nephew's wedding.

2) The lyrics refer to The Oasis, which was a real bar in Concordia, Kansas. What's the name of the last bar or restaurant where you ordered a beverage? (Yes, Dunkin' counts.)  I ate lunch with my co-worker Wende.  She also teaches Pre-K.  We ate at a Mexican restaurant called El Lago and I ordered a Dr. Pepper there.

3) Garth was having a stellar 2021. He kicked the year off by performing "Amazing Grace" at President Biden's inauguration in January, and then over the summer he received the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor. Now that we're past the halfway mark, how's your year going?  It is going really well.  I am already hearing of cases of covid at the school though, so here we go.  My husband (Karl), his parents just had covid, but are totally fine now.  They did not get sick, just a small cough.

4) But earlier this month, Garth cancelled the remaining August and September dates of his big concert tour. He's provided refunds for the 350,000 tickets that were sold. How do you tend to react when plans change? Are you easily annoyed, or do you roll with it?  I roll with whatever is going on.   That has come with age and covid making me spread myself so thin and do all kind of different things last year has shown me I can roll with the changes.

5) Before he sang about having friends in low places, Garth hung around in some. When he was as a struggling performer, he supported himself as a bouncer. What's the most physically taxing job you've ever had?  Probably the job I have now teaching pre-k.  I dance and play with the kids everyday.  It is tiring, but good tiring.  My knee hurts though.  I need to stop jumping up and down as we dance.  Hahahaha.  It is only physically taxing to me because I am old.  It was not hard at all when I was younger.

6) According to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), Garth surpassed The Beatles as the top-selling recording artist of the last 30 years. Who do you listen to more often: Garth or the Beatles?  Garth, but I love the Beatles too.  I just do not own any of their music.  I do own Garth's.

7) Garth and singer Trisha Yearwood have been happily married for 15 years now. Trisha says that as much as she loves her husband, his whistling drives her crazy. Come clean: what's your most annoying habit?  I HATE that I laugh nervously so much...like I say something and laugh.  It is awkward.  I think my other bad habits would not bother others.

8) In 1990, when this song was a hit, Soviet President Gorbachev traveled first to Ottawa to meet Prime Minister Mulroney and then to Washington DC to meet President Bush. Do you have any travel plans? We want to hear about them, even if you aren't meeting any politicians or heads of state.  I do not have any travel plans at this time.

9) Random question: Your dear friend spends weeks planning a party. After just 30 minutes, you find yourself having a terrible time. Would you leave at the earliest (polite) opportunity? Or would you stay till the bitter end out of loyalty?  Ok, please don't judge me,  but I hate parties.  I loved them when I was young, but not anymore.  Now, if my dear friend was having a party, I would likely stay to help clean-up, but I would WANT to leave.

Sunday Stealing- Sad and Sleepy

Sad and Sleepy

1. Has anyone ever made fun of your taste in music?  Oh yes!  My son Josh
hates the 80's music I listen to.  He rather enjoys 60's and 70's music.

2. Do you have pop-tarts in your house right now?  no

3. Does someone owe you over twenty dollars?  no

4. When was the last time you burned any part of your body?  I think I got a
little sunburned in the Spring on my face.

5. What kind of booze did you last take shots of?  I don't even remember.
It was when I was in college.

6. If you could see any musician live, front row, who would you choose?  I have
only been to a few concerts.  It just isn't something I find myself wanting to
do.  I will say Garth Brooks though.  He is so talented.

7. If I gave you ten dollars, what would you spend it on?  Probably food.

8. Does / did either of your parents serve in the military?  no, but they both had
siblings that did.  My dad's brother was killed in  Vietnam and my mom's
brother served in the army.

9. Do you like sour candy?  not really

10. What do you do to stay awake when you’re tired?  If I am that tired I go to bed,
but if it is a case where I have to stay awake I would probably drink something
with some caffeine.

11.Do you wear your shoes around the house?  Yes, I always have shoes
on so I am ready to go if I need to be.  I know that is weird.

12. Is there ever a time that you enjoy cold showers?  no, I do not mind a
warm/cool shower after a hot day of being outside, but not cold.

13. Are you good at filling silence in awkward situations?  Not at all, I make
things more awkward trying to fill the silence.

14. Any TV shows you sit down weekly to watch?  not right now.  I have been
watching baseball and football is in pre-season, but I heard Yellowstone is
starting back up November 7th.  I cannot wait.  I enjoy tv shows.  I have
several I watch when they are on.

15. Are you one to sneak food into movie theaters?  no, I like to get popcorn and
a drink at the theater.  It is just part of the experience for me.

Saturday 9: Woman in Love

Woman in Love

Saturday 9: Woman in Love (1980)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Barbra dreams of love. What's something you've been dreaming of, or wishing for, lately? (It doesn't have to be romantic.)   I have really been thinking about a vacation lately...not soon, but maybe next summer?  Covid has everything all messed up, but we will see.  I know I have been off all summer, but I mean a real vacation where I go somewhere else besides my house.

2) She sings that she and her lover are oceans apart. Tell us about someone who is far away, and that you wish was nearer this Saturday morning.  The ones I love and care most about are all close by.  I am very fortunate.

3) This was a #1 hit for Streisand, so popular it knocked Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" out of the top spot on the charts. Are you a Freddie Mercury/Queen fan?  I LOVE Freddie Mercury and Queen! ♥♥

4) This song was written specifically for Barbra by Barry and Robin Gibb of the BeeGees. During the late 1970s, when the BeeGees were riding high on the success of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, she let them know she was a fan and would love to record one of their songs. The collaboration went so well that they ended up writing not one but nearly a dozen songs for her. Tell us about something that went way better for you than you predicted it would.  Open House this past Thursday.  We are starting a lot of new things this year with our pre-k kiddos and getting that information out to the parents.  I was really worried Open House would be crazy because of this new stuff, but it went well.  I have 16 kids so far.

5) Barbra traveled to Miami Beach to record this song in Barry's favorite studio. Have you ever been to Miami Beach?  no, I wouldn't mind visiting though.

6) Barbra went to Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn. She had a mad crush on one of her classmates. That boy was Bobby Fischer, who grew up to be an international chess champion. Do you remember one of your big high school crushes? Do you know whatever became of him or her?  The only real high school crush I had was for David my high school boyfriend.  He is living in New Mexico now.  We are friends on facebook and I had his nephew in class last school year.  Most of his family still lives here.

7) Barbra is responsible for the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai. It's dedicated to the study of heart disease, its impact on women, and the search for more effective treatment. If you could fund a not-for-profit, as Barbra has done, what cause would you champion?  I have always wanted to run an animal sanctuary.  There is this lady on facebook that takes care of all animals.  Her facebook page is called Josh and his Critters.  She is amazing and lives in the L.A. area.  I have followed her for years and she has saved a lot of animals.  She has lost a lot too, but she loves them and they at least know love before they pass.  Her heart is HUGE.

8) In 1980, when "Woman in Love" was popular, Macaulay Culkin was born. He's best known for the Home Alone movies. Have you seen them? If yes, did you enjoy them?  This is crazy, but I refused to watch those movies because they looked so stupid.  Last Christmas I finally decided to watch the original and also Home Alone 2.  I loved them!

9) Random question: On social media, people keystroke LOL all the time. When is the last time you literally laughed out loud?  Well I am back to work, so I have been with my friend Kris.  I am sure she did something crazy to make me laugh more than once this past week.

up medical things.  It is so interesting to me.  I am the same way with
teaching items.

birthdays whether I want to or not is working.  Then we typically have dinner
out, well we bring it home.

have worked two weeks getting my room ready for kids and I am still
not done.

got support from my new teaching job I have been able to flourish.

6. What dish would you bring to a summer potluck?  I typically bring fruit, drinks
or chips.  I hate cooking.

7. What do you miss about Winter?  snow.  Winter will be here before we know
it though.  I am looking forward to Fall.

8. Share a summer memory  Well, the best vacation I have been on was to
Orange Beach.  I have talked about it a lot, so I won't again, but that is
the best summer memory for me.  I also have some fun memories from
when I was in high school and college being out on the lake boating with
friends and just having a carefree time.

9. Words you misspell or misuse the most  I misspell cemetery all of the time.
really have to think about it.  I even had to google it for this.

10. Things you love to do, that can only happen in summer  read, I just do not
have time to read once school starts.  I also love to swim, but I haven't been
able to in a few years.  When I say swim, I mean lay in the water and get a tan.

11. How would you describe your sense of humor?  I love to have fun and I am a
little silly.  I guess there are 9 types of humor.  I do not really fit in any of
those, so I must be a blend of several.

12. Have you ever quit a job or career?  I quit my first teaching job because they
wanted me to switch schools (I worked for a coop that served three counties.
I would have had to drive an hour to get to the school they wanted me to
teach at.  I said no and quit.  When I left I was worried I had made the wrong
decision, but the school I work at now is fantastic.  It is like night and day to
compare the two jobs.

13. What are your favorite features of your cell phone?  I love apps, I have so
many to keep up with everything I enjoy.  I use Libby a lot for reading.  I
have the social media platforms.  I like the camera and I enjoy shopping via
my phone.  It is a small item and I can use it anytime I want.  I love my cellphone.

14. What scents always make you hungry?  this happens to my cousin, but
scents do not  really make me hungry.  I have the bakery scents, but I just
enjoy them.

15. What are you working on right now?  My classroom.  I still have some small
things to do before school starts for the classroom to be truly ready for kids in
two weeks.

Saturday 9- Smelly Cat

Smelly Cat

Saturday 9: Smelly Cat (1995)

Unfamiliar with this song? Hear it here.

1) Poor Smelly Cat lives with negligent humans who refuse to take it to the vet. Who is the last doctor you spoke to (vet, MD, dentist, PhD ...)?  I have seen all of my doctor's this summer, but the last one I saw was my chiropractor.  I saw him on Monday afternoon.  Just routine care, I wasn't hurt.

2) This song was introduced during the second season of Friends. Were you a fan of the show? Oh my goodness yes!  I was about their age, so I was totally into that show.  I never missed it.

3) On the show, the song was performed by Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), an amateur folk singer and a professional masseuse. There  was a debate on Reddit about massages -- some loved them because they are relaxing and therapeutic, others think it's "creepy to be undressed and handled by a stranger." How about you? Do you enjoy massages?  I have never been.  I think I am probably on the "that is creepy" team.  I wouldn't mind it, but I do not want to be laying there in a towel or less.  EWWW (for the masseuse).

4) During the run of Friends, Phoebe was roommates first with Monica and then with Rachel and finally with her true love, Mike. Tell us about one of your roommates.  I had a roommate named Dawn and we were always up to something.  I think I mentioned her one week because I was talking about how we would always take off on road trips.  We had so much fun and I have fond memories of our years together in college.  We even worked together while in college at a grocery store.  I found out a few years ago that she had passed away.  She was probably 43 years old or so.  I have no idea what happened. She was such a big personality.  I know she was home and passed around midnight.

5) Phoebe often performed for tips on street corners or at her favorite coffee shop, Central Perk. Where is your favorite place to go for a cup of joe?  I don't drink coffee.  I don't stop anywhere for special drinks.

6) This song was originally called "Smelly Dog," inspired by a pooch named Gouda. The childhood pet of Friends writer Betsy Borns, poor Gouda could have smelled better. Is there an odor you'd prefer to never smell again?  anything that takes my breath away.

7) 35% of American households include a cat. Are there any pets at your house?  I have two dogs...Molly and Meisha.  Molly is part corgi and part blue heeler.  Meisha is a lab.

8) In 1995, the year Phoebe first performed "Smelly Cat," Steve Fossett became the first person to make a solo flight across the Pacific in a hot air balloon. Have you ever ridden in a balloon?  No, I always wanted to when I was younger.  I think I would be too scared now.

9) Random question: Looking over your romantic history, have you broken more hearts, or had your heart broken more often? broken more hearts, but I have had my heart broken plenty of times too.

Tuesday 4 Meme- What Are You Doing Lately?

What Are You Doing Lately?

Welcome. I am still not back to normal but, I am trying..
here are this week's questions. As always they are in memory
of Toni Taddeo.

1. Reading anything good lately? How about magazines? Do you buy any?
I do not read magazines, but I did just read a book called People We Meet
On Vacation by Emily Henry.  It is a bit of a romance, so I think many of
you would enjoy it.  I also just finished  The Girl Before by J.P. Delaney.
It is one of my thrillers, so definitely not for everyone, but I loved it.  It is
being made into either a tv show or a movie, so I wanted to read it.  I am
waiting to read The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave.  I am on a
waiting list, but I am next.

2. Do you belong to any clubs, societies, or do you meet with friends regularly
to chat?  I do meet with friends regularly to chat.  No clubs or societies though.

3. Where are you from originally and if you moved why did you move?
I am originally from Missouri and that is where I live.  I have moved around
when I was young for college, but I am home now.

4. Do you like a good Western Movie? Who was your favorite movie/TV Cowboy?
I am not really a huge Western fan.  My dad was and he drove me crazy watching
them.  Maybe John Wayne would be my favorite cowboy though. I liked The Lone
Ranger some when I was a kid.

Sunday Stealing

1. What is the nearest book to you? Your Kindle does not count. The
Wonderboy of Whistlestop by Fannie Flagg. I borrowed it from a
friend last year and haven't seen her, but I will take it to school
with me and give it back soon.  We will be in the same building
again this year.

2. When was the last time you took a "me" vacation  It has been around 7
years.  We are starting to look at vacation destinations though.

3. How many telephone numbers do you have?  LOTS!  I have all of my pre-k
kid parent numbers in my phone along with all of my other contacts.  I need
to go through it.

4. If you could fix one thing in the public school system, what is the one thing
you would do immediately?  The thing I did not like much being at the
elementary last year was all of the testing.  It is awful on the kids and the
teachers.  I think it tells you how that child is doing that day.  If they get
bored with the test don't think they just don't click through the test.  I
felt like that was all we did at the elementary.  It creates so much stress
for everyone involved.  It is every quarter and then they have MAP testing
at the end of the year.  That isn't even counting regular teacher assessments
for the kids.  I am talking about standardized testing.

5. What's your favorite Olympic event?  Summer would be gymnastics and
swimming.  Winter games would be figure skating.

6. Do you watch the Olympics?  Yes.  I enjoy watching them very much.

7. Who is your favorite sports team player?  Oh no you don't.  I love all
of my St. Louis Cardinals and KC Chiefs. I suppose my favorite Cardinal
is Yadier Molina and my favorite KC Chief would have to be Patrick
Mahomes.

8. If you could travel in a spaceship to any planet, which planet would you
like to visit and why?  Maybe Saturn...it is so pretty.

9. When was the last time you sat in a church?  It has been a while.  We
haven't gone back in person since covid.  We do stream online though.
We actually watch two different churches.  Does anyone watch Life
Church with Pastor Craig Groeshel out of Oklahoma City, OK?  Great
church!  Pastor Brian Houston is at our church today from Hillsong
Australia.  I love him, but I have seen him in person before at our church.
I will just stream it.  Hillsong United did a concert at our church too.
They are so fantastic!

10. Are there any aspects of blogging that annoy you?  People talking about the
things they hate all of the time.  It is so negative.  What makes you happy?

11. Have you ever gone to a party and snooped in the medicine cabinet?  no

12.Do you watch reality TV?  no

13. How many people can you call who have known you since you were in
school?  I am still in touch with a lot of people I went to high school with
on facebook, but I only have the numbers of a couple.

14. Who, when, and where was your first kiss?  I am not sure about who.  I know
that sounds weird, but it was someone I was not really serious about.  I was
in high school and not sure where.

15. You just got thrown out of your country. Where do you want to become
a citizen?  Oh geez!  I hope that never happens.  I am not sure.  I am used to
my freedoms.

Saturday 9: The Curly Shuffle (1983)

Curly Shuffle

Saturday 9: The Curly Shuffle (1983)

Unfamiliar with this song? Hear it here.

1) This song is a valentine to The Three Stooges. Are you a fan?  I never had the opportunity to really watch them much and appreciate their craft.  I do remember the song Curly Shuffle though.  I would have been 12 years old.

2) It was released to coincide with the Three Stooges getting a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame. That's the Hollywood in California. There are 23 other Hollywoods in the United States and two in Ireland. Have you ever visited any of these 26 Hollywoods? If so, which one?  I haven't been to any of them.

3) The inspiration for this song was Jerome Horowitz, aka Curly Howard of The Three Stooges. He had many signature phrases, including "nyuk, nyuk, nyuk," "woob, woob, woob," and "sointenly." Give us a movie quote, and be sure to tell us who said it.  I love this movie.  Ferris (Matthew Broderick) said the quote from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

4) Curly's older brother, Moses Horowitz, was better known as Moe Howard. Moe was convinced that Lou Costello of Abbott & Costello developed his screen persona by stealing from Curly. It turns out he was right! Lou Costello was previewing early prints of Three Stooges films before they were released to the public. Tell us about a time your gut instinct told you something that turned out to be true.    I am not sure.  It happens, but it is nothing major.

5) The third Stooge, Larry, was Louis Feinberg. Though he became famous as a movie comic, he was also a talented musician. When he was 11, he received an invitation to study violin at a European conservatory, but because of WWI he was unable to go. Tell us about plans of yours that were interrupted because of circumstances beyond your control (weather, the pandemic, etc.).  Many years ago (18)...Josh was 5 and he turned 23 on Wednesday...we had a vacation planned to Disney World and we were to stay for two weeks in Florida.  Karl had made arrangements for us to stay at a motel and had already paid for it.  It was a few days before we were to leave and I got the flu and a double ear infection.  Karl took me to urgent care and I got anti-biotics...the flu went away on it's own.   We took our vacation, but Josh slept with Karl and I slept by myself so I could sleep good.  I had to take medicine while we were at the Disney World park.  My ears hurt, but I felt fine other than that.  I am so glad we went because Karl hasn't been on a vacation since.   Hopefully we can plan a vacation next summer or so.  Anyway, our plans were interrupted in the sense that I did not feel 100%.

6) As a teen, Larry took up boxing and won several bouts. His father disapproved of the sport and put an end to his boxing career. Did you participate in sports during your teen years?  I was in track in middle school and I was in cheerleading in high school.

7) Today the Three Stooges Fan Club has more than 2,000 members and publishes a quarterly newsletter filled with rare photos, interviews, trivia and a marketplace where fans can buy and sell Stooge memorabilia. Have you ever belonged to a fan club?  no

8) In 1983, Princess Diana was the world's top cover girl. Her influence was credited for reviving Britain's fashion and tourist industries. When you think of Britain, what's the first thing that comes to mind?  Big Ben or the Royal Family.  Even Plastic Man. and Mrs. PM.

9) Random question -- Your best friend needs help hanging a picture. Would you be comfortable holding the nail so your friend could swing the hammer?  Honestly, my friends are much like me, I think they would all be very careful.  I would trust them and hold the nail for them.  I wouldn't hold one for my husband...he works in commercial construction and he would be swinging hard.  He wouldn't need me to hold a nail for him though.
