Sunday Stealing- Senior Life

Senior Life

1. What is the farthest you have ever traveled?  We went to Kissimee, FL for our honeymoon and
back  again to Disney World when Josh was about 5 years old.  It is 16 hours and 39 minutes
from Missouri.  It was 1,129 miles.

2. Who did you date while in high school?  David, I do not want to talk about anyone online.  He
was a great guy though and from a great family.

3. What is one of the worst trips you've ever taken? What went wrong?  I do not get to travel very
often, so I try to enjoy all of my trips.

4. How do you like to spend a lazy day?  reading, blogging or playing games.

5. How old were you when you found out that JFK had been assassinated? How did it affect you?
wasn't born yet.  I think he could have done great things for this country though.  It would
have been nice to know.  Very unfortunate.

6. Who has been one of the most important people in your life?  My family...Karl, Josh, my mom and
dad and Karl's family (mom, dad and sisters).

7. What is one trait you would most like to improve in yourself?  I am too shy.

He was also a great guy from a great family.

10. Did you have a family member you wish you'd gotten to know better?  I wish I could have known
my mom's Grandma Allie...she was a full blooded Cherokee Indian.  She is interesting to me.
Allie died when I was really young.  I wish I had asked all of them more questions.

11. Tell me about your greatest gardening success.   I grew corn one time.  That was super fun.
I am not much of a gardener, the soil in Missouri is all rocks and clay.  My Grandparents lived
in Oklahoma and had black soil!  That I could garden in.

12. What was your Dad like when you were a child?  He was a football coach and teacher.  He was
fun and was always teaching me something....to tie my shoes, so tell time, to cook, mow the

Saturday 9- Bills, Bills, Bills

Bills, Bills, Bills

BILLS, BILLS, BILLS (1999)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about a cheating boyfriend. Unlike most songs, where the lover deceives by seeing another, this one squanders his girl's financial resources. She sings that he's ruined her credit. Do you know your credit score?  My husband likes to keep up with that.  I cannot remember the number, but it is good.

2) How often do you pay your bills? Do you handle them as they come in, or do you pay weekly, bi-weekly or monthly? Or are you lucky enough to have someone else handle your bills?  Mostly monthly or as they come in, but we also have bills we pay for the year.  Karl does the bills.

3) Destiny's Child had a hit with "Bills, Bills, Bills." This girl group got their start in Houston, TX. During the recent, bruising storm, lead singer Beyonce sent food, money and water to her home state. Have you spent much time in the Lone Star State?  I have been there a few times.  We visited San Antonio a few years ago to visit the Alamo and do other things and we went to Dallas shopping and to Fort Worth to Nascar races different times.

4) Beyonce is the breakout star of the group and went on to have a highly successful solo career. Can you think of another star who began his/her career as the member of a group?  Justin Timberlake

5) "Bills, Bills, Bills" was performed a cappella by the kids on Glee. That Fox show ran for six seasons. Were you a fan?  I hated it at first, then I loved it.  It was dumb, but I love to listen to people sing.

6) In 1999, when this song was on the charts, SpongeBob SquarePants premiered. The show remains popular among the younger set. Have you ever seen it?  I can't stand to listen to it, so I know about it and have seen parts of it, but I refuse to watch it.

7) SpongeBob has become an industry, spawning movies, a Broadway musical, video games and both coloring and comic books. Once considered children's amusements, today coloring and comic books enjoy a following among adults. Have you recently enjoyed coloring or reading a comic book?  I enjoy coloring and actually, one of the kids at school asked me to help him color a picture for a Valentine's Day gift.  It didn't take long, but I enjoyed it.  Several of the little girls at the elementary school have those adult coloring books.  They do a good job with them.

8) Also in 1999, Walmart expanded to the United Kingdom. Do you shop at Walmart?  I used to love Wal Mart, but I try to avoid it now.  It isn't that I dislike it, we just have a Dollar General by our house and I mostly shop there for little things.  Wal~Mart has it's headquarters close to where I live.  They are in Arkansas, but that is only about a 2 hour drive from my house.  It is funny all of the Wal~Mart's in Arkansas.

9) Random question -- We've all met people who aren't exactly as they present themselves. Are you good at spotting a phony?  I usually am, I get a feeling about people.   I once changed my mind about someone I thought was shady only to learn later that I was right to begin with.

Tuesday 4 Meme- Moving

Moving

Welcome to Tuesday 4 kept up in memory of our friend Toni Taddeo who began it several years ago. She would be so pleased to see people keeping up with it!

Let's talk about moving today.

1. How far away are you from where you grew up?  I am about 20 minutes
from where I grew up.  I work where I grew up and went to school.

2. Families sometimes move all over the country. Do you feel that a family should try to stay
close together?  I think it is nice if you all get along to live close, but sometimes you go where
the work is.

3. How many times have you moved in your life and would you like to share when and
where you moved?  When I first moved out I moved about 2 hours away to go to college
in Joplin, MO, then moved to Kansas City, MO which is about 5 hours away, then I moved
to Springfield and lived there until I got married.  I moved several times in Joplin to different
places to live and two times in Springfield.  Karl and I have lived in our house we are
currently in since we got married almost 24 years ago.

4. What brought you to where you are living now and are you happy there?  This is where
Karl had bought a house.  We live in an old house.  I would not mind to live in a little
bigger house that is newer.  I would also love to live back where I grew up.  It is beautiful
there with the lake and hills.  It would not be good for Karl's work though, so I guess we
will stay where we are.

Sunday Stealing- Coronavirus questions

Coronavirus questions

In the past year have you–

1. Gone without a bra (Plastic Mancunian & Bud may skip this one!) - Yes!  I did not over the
Spring/Summer, but this past week during the crazy ice and snow, I have not worn one.  I
just want to be comfortable.  It is back to work for me on Monday, so I will wear one then.

2. Skipped making your bed.  no, I toss and turn a lot, so it gets made every day because my
blankets are everywhere.

3. Ordered groceries to be delivered  no, we do not have delivery where I live, but you can do
curbside pickup.  We do not do that either.

4. Cooked a real meal  yes, almost every night.

5. Spent the day in pajamas?  no, I just cannot do this.  I wish I could.

6. Skipped shaving your legs  Oh yes.

7. Spent hours on Instagram or Pinterest  no

8. Eaten in a restaurant  no, not yet.  We have ordered take out.

9. Skipped washing your hair.  No, my hair is so gross if I do that.  It gets washed
every day.

10. Not folded the laundry  no, laundry is my thing.  I love doing laundry and I fold it and put
it away as soon as it is done.

11. Worked a puzzle  no, not in a while.  I am more of a reader to pass time.  It may be because
I worked with kids teaching them how to do puzzles in preschool.  I just took a break from it.

12. Had Zoom calls  Gross...yes of course.  We have had some training at school this way
though and I did not mind that at all.  I was on a committee last school year and we had to finish
up those meetings via zoom and they would last for hours!  It was so boring.

13. Written letters.  no and it was a great time to do that.  I sent some cards though.

14. Binge watched a TV show  Yes, I am sure I watched a few.

15.Gone barefoot  no, never.  I always have on my shoes and socks if I am out of bed.  I am so
weird that way.  I like to be ready to go at all times if I need to be.  I know that is weird.  I am
spontaneous too, so if I decide to go somewhere, I am always ready.

Just as a side note...I know some of you are Fannie Flagg fans.  I am reading her new book "The
Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop and it is very good.  Just in case you were wondering.  It is the
follow up book to Fried Green Tomatoes.  I love her writing.  If you are not a fan, then you will
not like it, but if you do, I highly recommend it.  You can click the picture to read the info on
Goodreads.

Saturday 9- Cry

Cry

Saturday 9: Cry (1952)

Unfamiliar with this song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Johnnie Ray assures us we'll feel better if we cry. Do you agree?  I totally agree.  Sometimes it is good to just release emotions.  It makes me feel better anyway.

2) He also mentions waking from a dream, believing it was real. Has that ever happened to you?  Yes, but not very often.

3) Because this record was such a massive hit, Johnnie Ray was nicknamed "The Prince of Wails." Without looking it up, do you know who is currently the Prince of Wales?  I believe it is still Prince Charles.

4) To cash in on the success of this single, 20th Century Fox cast Johnnie Ray in a big-budget musical, There's No Business Like Show Business. Today it's best remembered as a Marilyn Monroe movie. Have you seen many of Marilyn's films?  I have seen a few.

5) After graduating from high school, Johnnie worked at low-paying jobs, including bus boy and soda jerk. He found he made better tips when he began playing piano in restaurants. Have you ever worked for tips?  no

6) In 1969, Johnnie was in the news a lot again because he performed with Judy Garland during her European tour and was best man at her wedding to Mickey Deans. Tell us what you wore to the most recent wedding you attended.  My nephew got married almost two years ago now and I wanted to get a new outfit.  I got a Genie jumpsuit with black heels and new jewelry and had my nails done.  We got to the wedding and there were people there in shorts.  So much for trying to look nice.  It is a nice outfit to have though.  It is something I can wear at Open House or Parent/Teacher conferences.  This one is similar.

7) In 1952, when this song was a hit, Mr. Potato Head made his debut. It was the first toy advertised on television. What TV commercial have you seen recently?  I just saw a commercial for New Amsterdam, which is one of my favorite tv shows starting back up March 2nd.  I am excited.

8) Also in 1952, chlorophyll was all the rage for banishing bad breath. Colgate led the way by adding it to their toothpaste. Do you use gum, mints, mouthwash, or breath strips?  gum or mints

9) Random question -- Congratulations! You won a free three night/two day weekend for two in Las Vegas! The weather is predicted to be sunny and 65º each day you're there. It's 12:00 noon on your first day. Are we most likely to find you: a) gambling in the casino or b) having breakfast in bed or c) outside, enjoying the sun and the sights?  I would be (C)...outside enjoying the sun and sights.

Sunday Stealing- Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day

1. What is the meaning of Valentine’s Day in your country/area? What happens on this day?
It is a day to express your love for others.

2. Is Valentine’s Day more for men or women? Explain your answer.  It is for
everyone.  If you buy something for someone, everyone shares in the love.

3. Do you have any special plans for Valentine’s Day? What will you do?  No, it is supposed to
snow, so we will stay in and have dinner here.  Karl bought some Valentine's Day cookies and
a small chocolate cake for all of us.

4. Which traditional gift would you rather receive: chocolates, flowers, or a card with a personal
message? flowers

5. Is Valentine’s Day only about romantic love? Or is it a good occasion to celebrate friendship as well?
any kind of love.  I share Valentine's with Josh and my friends as well.  I have also been known to
buy Valentine's treats for my pets.

6. Do you like romantic movies? What is your favorite romantic movie?  Hallmark movies and yes, I
enjoy a good romance every now and then.

7. Have you ever received a Valentine’s Day card or gift from a secret admirer? How did it make you
feel? When I was in high school I received roses from a secret admirer for Valentine's day once.
I never did find out who it was, but it made me feel good to get them.

8. Is Valentine’s Day the most romantic day of the year? If not, what day is?  I think it is a day picked
to make money from.  I think most people are romantic several other days too.

9. What is the most romantic thing you have done for another person?  I am not sure.

10. Valentine’s Day is promoted by companies whose only interest is making money. Discuss whether
you agree or disagree.  I agree.  I think it is a day where people are guilted into buying things for
others.  I mean, it is fun, but not necessary.

11. Describe your perfect Valentine’s Day date.  I do not expect anything, but maybe something
simple like a dinner and movie.

12. How should a single person spend Valentine’s Day? What do you suggest?  I have spent
Valentine's Day with friends when I was young.  I think they should do what they want to do.
That might mean staying home.  It is up to them.

13. Do you enjoy playing cupid? Do you try to introduce people in the hope they will make a love match?
I might have when I was younger, but not anymore.

14. Some restaurants charge higher prices on Valentine’s Day. Are you willing to pay more to dine out
on this day?  no, we are expecting snow and a lot of it.

15. Is a romantic gesture more powerful on Valentine’s Day or on another day of the year?  Maybe
since people are really trying to make the day special for others.

Happy Valentine's Day to all my blogging friends!

Saturday 9: My Valentine

My Valentine

Saturday 9: My Valentine (2011)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Paul McCartney sings that he won't let a day go by without remembering why he loves his valentine. What blessings are you thankful for today?  I am thankful for God and my family.  I am also thankful for the book I am reading that became available during our snow days.  It is called The Sun Down Motel and it is excellent.  It is a murder/mystery/thriller.

2) Paul directed the video of Natalie Portman translating his song into American Sign Language (ASL), which is the third most commonly-used language in both the United States and Canada. British Sign Language (BSL), commonly used in EU countries, is very different. Do you find it easy to learn new languages?  I do, I love studying languages.  I took four years of French, a year of Spanish and I learned some ASL working with preschool kids.

3) The song is on Paul's Kisses on the Bottom CD, for which he won one of his 18 Grammy Awards. What compliment or accolade have you recently received?  Gloria said she enjoyed visiting my family country graphics website that I had years ago on Sunday Stealing last week.  That made me feel so good and I miss that website very much.  I let it go when I went back to work.

4) Paul is an honorary NYPD detective. He was given this designation for performing a charity concert after 9/11. Do you know anyone in law enforcement?  I know several people in law enforcement, I went to college with them and we hung out together.  We studied some of the same classes in Sociology and Psychology.  I studied education later.  I have had students of parents in law enforcement too.  They are good people.

5) Bob Dylan has said of Paul, "I'm in awe of McCartney. He's about the only one I'm in awe of. He can do it all. He never lets up. He's just so effortless." Tell us about someone whose talent you admire.  It would probably be educators I work with.  It takes talent to be able to teach "all" kids.  You have to keep coming up with different ways to present the same information until it makes sense to them.

This is the last Saturday  9 before Valentine's Day and so this morning we shall focus on the upcoming holiday.

6) The holiday is also known as The Feast of St. Valentine. Do you have a special meal planned for February 14?  We usually grab something from a restaurant, but this weekend we are expecting a lot of snow, so we will stay home.

7) The phrase "wear your heart on your sleeve" began in medieval times. On Valentine's Day, men would celebrate the holiday by displaying their lady love's name on their sleeves. If you were going to adopt this custom, whose name would you wear?  Karl

8) Women buy and send more Valentines than men do. Who received the last greeting card you sent?  My friend Lori.

9) Men buy and send more roses at Valentine's Day than women do. What's your favorite flower?  I am not sure that I have a favorite, I love all flowers.

Tuesday 4- Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day

Welcome to Tuesday 4. I am sure Toni would be so pleased you are here.
Let's talk about St. Valentine's Day.

1. St Valentine paid for the weddings of poor girls. Today weddings
can cost a fortune. What do you think about wedding expenses?  I think it is
a very personal decision.  It is up to the person having the wedding.  My wedding
was kind of middle priced.  If I were doing it again, I would have a small wedding
and not spend much money.  It was over in a flash.

2. Do you or did you send Valentines to people?  I have before, but I haven't
in years.  I actually thought about sending some this year, but so far I haven't.

3. Do you find Valentine's day to be romantic?  not really anymore now that I am
married.  It was when I was in college and dating.  Fancy restaurants, dressing up,
having my hair done.

4. Do you do anything special for Valentine's Day with partners or family?  We just do
cards, maybe flowers or chocolate.

Sunday Stealing- January, Part 2

1.Can you eat with chopsticks?  no, I don't think I have even ever tried.

2.Could you tell real money from counterfeit?  I am not sure.  Probably not?

3.What do you think about school uniforms?  I don't really think about them.  I have nothing
against them.  If it is part of the school dress code..go for it.

4.What ancient civilization would you most like to visit?  Ancient Egypt!  So interesting.

5.What would make a great new Crayola color?  some sort of bluish purple, maybe it could
be called horizon.

6.If an art project is created with the intent of getting rich and famous, does that cast doubt over
its significance as a work of art?  I don't think so.  If it is something someone else loves and wants
to buy, it is art.

7.What do you get in trouble for the most?  Trying to help too much.

8. Do you blow your nose in public?  If I need to blow my nose, I blow it.  I try not to, but if it
is getting where I am having trouble, I just blow it.  I am around kids all day, so they don't care.

9.If all the nations in the world are in debt, where did all the money go?  Government officials

10.Is it as easy to make you happy now as it was when you were a child?  yes.  I am a pretty happy
person.  I always have been.  I love the little things in life.

11.Who knows more...you, or your parents?  It depends on the subject.  I am better at science
and reading, my mom is better at calculations and math.  My dad was good at everything, if
he were still alive, I would say he knows more.

12.What instrument would you like to be famous for playing? piano

13.Would you have sex with a stranger for one million dollars?   gross...no

14.Are you completely in control of your body?  yes

these answers!

Saturday 9- Waiting for Tonight

Waiting for Tonight

Saturday 9: Waiting for Tonight (1999)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Jennifer Lopez anticipates a night of unbridled passion with the love of her life. What are you waiting for tonight? (No pressure; it doesn't have to be as thrilling as hers.)  I am doing this midweek, so I am looking forward to going to sleep.

2) She sings that she's glad she's beyond those nights that found her tossing and turning alone in her bed. Did you enjoy restful sleep last night?  Yes, I almost always sleep really well.

3) Whatever Jennifer has planned for tonight, it won't include alcohol. She never drinks liquor. What's the last adult beverage you enjoyed?  It has been almost 2 years and I had a small glass of wine.  It wasn't even all wine, it was mixed in punch.  I am not really a drinker.

4) Ms. Lopez performed "Waiting for Tonight" during last year's Super Bowl halftime show. Will you be watching The Big Game this weekend?  I will for sure!  I am a Kansas City Chiefs fan.  We waited so long to see a good KC Chiefs team, I am just so excited they are doing well.  I lived in Kansas City briefly too when I was younger.  GO CHIEEEEEFS!

5) Speaking of this weekend, The Weeknd will headline the Super Bowl 2021 halftime show. Are you a fan of his?  Yes

6) Super Bowl Sunday is the #1 day for guacamole consumption in the US. When did you most recently eat something with avocado in it?  I am not an avocado fan.  If I ate anything with avocado, I did not know it.

7) Chicken wings are a popular Super Bowl dish, too. When did you most recently eat chicken? How was it prepared?  We had fried chicken for supper tonight.

8) This year, fast food chain Chipotle will run their first-ever Super Bowl ad. Do you pay closer attention to commercials during the Super Bowl?  I usually do pay more attention to the commercials, but last year when the Chiefs were in it, I watched the game more and we talked about plays during the commercials.  I really love the commercials too and halftime.  We are taping it, so I can always go back and watch again.  The game is priority this year.

9) Random question: Are you more likely to pretend to be more naive than you really are, or more sophisticated?  I do not do that anymore.  I am just myself.
