Saturday 9- This Haunted House

This Haunted House

Saturday 9: This Haunted House (1964)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Loretta Lynn wrote this song to help her cope with the sudden death of her friend, Patsy Cline. When they first met, Patsy was already a star and she helped Loretta become established. Did you more recently advise or receive advice?  First of all, I had not heard this song and I did not realize they were friends.  What a heartbreaking song.  Beautiful though.  I love them both.  I gave advice and it was at school about how to work with a struggling student.

2) She sings that Patsy's is the face she sees when she turns out the light. Do you remember who or what you were thinking about when you fell asleep last night?  I was thinking about the kids at school.

3) Loretta maintains her TN ranch is haunted. She says "the moaning woman" is a harmless apparition, dressed in white. Do you believe in ghosts?  I do.  I have never seen one, but I believe that stuff is out there, I just do not want anything to do with it.

4) Loretta Lynn's ranch is now open to the public. In addition to horseback riding, fishing and camping, Loretta's ranch features shops that sell locally-sourced jams, jellies and sauces, as well as Loretta Lynn CDs and "Coal Miner's Daughter" glassware and t-shirts. Have you ever brought home an edible souvenir? Or do you prefer to remember your trips with something more lasting, like a coffee mug or t-shirt?  When we go on vacation  we always make sure to try some of the local food that we cannot get where we live.  That is not really a souvenir though, it is just trying food.  I do not think I ever buy souvenir food to bring home.  I usually buy a key chain, beach towel if I am at the beach, hat and sometimes a t-shirt.  I watch a YouTube channel that when she goes on vacation she buys a perfume at the city she is on to remember the trip.  She has a perfume that reminds her of Paris for example.  I hate perfume, but I thought it was a great idea!  Just wanted to share.

5) According to Reader's Digest, The Exorcist is the scariest movie of all time. Have you seen it, and if so, did it scare you?  I did see it when I was younger and it did scare me.

6) Which do you find spookier: haunted houses or cemeteries?  haunted houses.  This is weird, but I find comfort in cemeteries.  I don't hang out or anything, but I do not mind them at all.

7) What's the most recent Halloween costume you wore?  We always dressed up at the preschool.  I believe I was a chocolate chip cookie.

8) When you were a kid, did you trade your Halloween candy with siblings or friends?   I am an only child.  I am sure my parents ate a lot of my candy.  I don't remember eating much of it.  I just enjoyed going out trick-or-treating.

9) Random question: You meet your very friendly new neighbor. She invites you over for a "get acquainted" cup of coffee tomorrow afternoon and you accept. Then you learn that she was once on trial for an axe murder ... but acquitted. Would you still go over to her house?  no, I would suddenly be busy.

Happy Halloween!!!

Reading Part 2

Welcome to Tuesday 4! Thank you for your participation in keeping the meme
alive in remembrance of Toni Taddeo.

1.  Kindle or hard cover/paper back?  I prefer to hold a book in my hands,

I also like audio books, it hurts my eyes to read an ebook.

2. Have you read a series like Harry Potter and if so which series and what did you
think of the stories? Can you recommend them and why?  I read the Left Behind
 series
and yes, I would recommend them.  They are quick and easy to read.
They are about the rapture and there are movies as well.

3. Do you have a library, book shelves etc in your home?  We have several book
shelves.
Josh has a book shelf with his books.  I have a book shelf with all of
my kids books I teach
with
that I do not want to keep at school and we have a
shelf of other books.

4. Is there a book you just really disliked? Why did you dislike it?  I do my
research on books before I spend my time reading a book, so I usually
read books I like, but every now and then I get one that is just slow.
There was a book this summer that everyone loved and I thought it was
boring.  Mexican Gothic was the name of it.  It moved too slow for me.
It got good toward the end, but I do not like books like that.

Saturday 9- Lights

Saturday 9: Lights (2011)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song was inspired by a young Ellie Goulding's fear of the dark. What scared you when you were a kid?  I was afraid of the dark for a short while.  I remember turning the light on in my closet once.

2) She thinks back to the room where her brother and sister slept and she felt safe. Did you share a room when you were growing up?  I am an only child, but my mom slept in my room with me for a while.  I hated that.  She stayed way too long.  I was not scared and did not need anyone sleeping with me.

3) Ellie Goulding grew up in public housing and worked her way through the University of Kent in Canterbury. Back in those days, her favorite job was theater usher because it offered her the perk of seeing plays for free. What's the most recent "freebie" you scored? (This includes a buy one/get one deal, extra points on your credit card, etc.)  My co-worker Tina brought me a candy bar this morning.  She brings me something about once a week like that.  She is so sweet.  She brings things to several people.

4) Even though today she is an international music star, Ellie still lives modestly. She describes herself as "still in university mode," and limits herself to $10/day for lunch. Where do you economize? $10/day for lunch?  I spend $2.50 for lunch.  I guess that is economizing.  I usually eat a chef salad at work.

5) Ellie has proclaimed herself "a cat lady" and often posts pictures of her cats to her Instagram account. What's the most recent photo you took?  I took pictures of my house decorated for fall.

6) Ellie appeared on Sesame Street. She, Elmo and Abby thanked clouds for raindrops, lakes, and the water we drink. Would you be thankful for a little rain this weekend?  I wouldn't mind.  We finally did got some rain and we do not need any now, but I do think it is supposed to rain more.

7) In 2011, the year "Lights" was a hit, Prince William married Kate Middleton. Ellie not only attended the wedding, she sang Elton John's "Your Song" for the couple's first dance. Tell us a song that reminds you of a romance in your life.  Hold on to the Nights by Richard Marx.  My boyfriend David and I broke up once in high school and he made me a tape with that song on it.  We did get back together.  I still think of David when I hear that song.

8) Also in 2011, AT&T abandoned their attempt to buy T-Mobile. Which company is your cell phone carrier? Are you happy with them?  Sprint.  They are great in the city, but I live in the country and spend almost all of my time in the country.  My husband insisted on that carrier.  They are fine I guess.  I wish they had better coverage and I think they did team with T-Mobile and our coverage is worse...how does that happen?

9) Random question: What recent experience made you feel old?  When I turned 50 in September I guess.  I really don't feel old.  Sometimes when my body is hurting I feel old.

Saturday 9- Vision of Love

Vision of Love

Saturday 9: Vision of Love (1990)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The lyrics refer to "sweet destiny." Do you believe in destiny?  I believe you make your own destiny, so make good choices and be brave.

2) This week's artist, Mariah Carey, has something to fall back on. She studied cosmetology and worked as a hair sweeper in a salon. When you get your hair cut, do you socialize with the stylist?  Yes, I do.  I have been seeing my stylist for a long time...probably 20 years, so she knows me pretty well.  I love to chat with Josh's stylist too.  We are facebook friends...we live in a small town.

3) She isn't likely to turn to cosmetology any time soon. Mariah is currently on the best seller list with her autobiography, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. Was the last book you finished fiction or non-fiction?  fiction.  It was a thriller called Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter.

4) So far, more than 800 people have reviewed Mariah's book on Amazon. Do you review products/services online?  If I really love something I will give it a review because I want others to know about it.

5) When she was a high school student, she was nicknamed "Mirage" because she skipped class so often. Did you ever play hooky?  Hardly ever.  My senior year I asked my dad if I could leave school early once.  I skipped a few times in college, but not many.

6) Mariah doesn't apologize for spoiling her dogs, who have been known to travel by limo. Do you know anyone who treats their pets like people?  I do a little.  I was really bad with Mandy, so I had to treat the other girls Meisha and Molly the same way.  I have lots of friends that treat their pets like kids.

7) In 1990, the year this song was popular, Martina Navratilova won the Wimbledon Women's Singles Tournament. How's your tennis game?  I haven't played since college, so I am sure it would be horrible.

8) Also in 1990, Pope John Paul II toured Mexico. Have you ever visited our neighbor south of the border?  no, but Karl's family (sisters) goes almost every year.

9) Random question(s): There are Gofundme campaigns for many purposes. Have you ever solicited funds online? Would you?  no I haven't and I would not unless I was absolutely desperate.

Tuesday 4 Meme- Little Questions

Welcome to Tuesday 4 in memory of Toni Taddeo... Here are a little group of questions

for you to ponder this week..

1 You have won a trip and can choose to go to Hawaii or  Paris? Summer or winter?
I would love to go to both, but I will choose Hawaii in the summer so I can relax.  I would
not have to get back in a hurry for anything if it were the summer either.

2 Little dog or big dog which do you prefer?  I enjoy both.  I think the smaller dogs are
easier to take care of as far as grooming.  My big dog has been easier to take care of
overall though.

3 Which TV/book/movie character do you    identify with, and why?  I have answered
this before but Sookie from All Girl's Filling Station Reunion by Fannie Flagg.
She was adopted and told in a really unusual way that she was adopted and
she is such a positive person.  I really related to her.

4 What did you wish for last, like at your birthday or when throwing a coin into a fountain?
Christmas wish list?  Somethings that you need to buy?  I need a new dryer right now more
 than anything else.

Blog Daily-Oct 11th

Do you remember what you were doing this time last year?  I looked back in my blog here.  I had filled out several memes for Tuesday 4 Meme...which would be some of Toni's last ones.  It also looked like The St. Louis Cardinals were in the playoffs still, so I would have been watching that.  I was also working at the Primary school in early childhood special education and it was a busy year.  I was helping on the bus a little too.  I did that until March when we shut down for that school year.  I would have never thought in October what would happen in the next couple of months.  Click below to play along!

Saturday 9- One Night Standards

Saturday 9: One Night Standards (2019)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The video for this song takes place in a motel and the story is told from the point of view of the desk clerk. Have you ever worked in a hotel, motel, or bed-and-breakfast?  No,  but I kind of wouldn't mind to try it.  My dad did years ago after he retired from teaching.

2) Ashley McBryde sings that she's not Cinderella, a reference to the fairy-tale heroine warned to return from the ball before midnight. When did you recently stay up until the wee small hours of the morning?  That is something I enjoy doing when I am not working.  I did that the whole time I was off for covid...so I stopped in August.

3) Ashley had been working hard as a singer/songwriter for eleven years before she was discovered and proclaimed one of County's best new artists. What was your life like 11 years ago?  I was teaching at a different school, I was an Early Childhood Special Education teacher.  It was a very toxic environment though because of the director.  So happy I left.

4) Ashley is from Mammoth Springs, AR. One of the most popular stops on Main Street -- for locals and tourists alike -- is Spring Dipper Ice Cream. More than 20 flavors are made right there on the premises, from Jamoca Almond Fudge to French Vanilla. When confronted with such a wide selection, do you tend to order your familiar favorite or try something new?  There is an ice-cream place by the lake called The Funky Twig and they are known for their different flavors of ice-cream and they always have something different every time I go in.  I try new things there.  It really just depends on where I am at.  I love vanilla, so that is a typical flavor I choose at places with normal flavors.  The Funky Twig has flavors like Apple Pie, Pumkin Pie, Pecan Pie, Salted Carmel and Vanilla.

5) In 2007, she moved to Nashville to pursue a music career. Have you ever relocated for a job?  Not really.  I moved to Kansas City after college for a while, but just to try something new...not for a job.  It ended up being too expensive and I moved back closer to home.

6) Whenever Ashley hears a Carpenters song, she thinks of her mother, who loved Karen Carpenter's voice. Tell us a song that reminds you a loved one.  Elvis songs remind me of my mom, Brenda Lee songs remind me of my papa...my mom's dad.  In the Summertime reminds me of my dad because he would sing it all of the time.

7) In 2019, the year this song was recorded, Notre Dame Cathedral was damaged in a fire. Have you ever visited Paris?  no, I would love to though.

8) Also in 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (aka Harry and Meghan) had a baby boy. Is anyone in your life expecting a baby?  There are several teachers I work with that are expecting.

9) Random question: Do you always want to hear the truth about yourself?  NO!!!  I like it when kids lie to me and tell me I look young and how funny I am.  I have my son that tells me the truth.  UGH!

Tuesday 4 Meme-

Autumn Days

Welcome! This is Tuesday 4 in honor and memory of our friend Toni Taddeo.

This week's questions are from ideas given by Susan who owns Susan's Sayings.

1.Are you decorating your home for fall?  Thanksgiving?
Show us some photos if you don't mind.  I decorate for Fall, Halloween
and Thanksgiving.  I only decorate for Halloween for the week of Halloween.
My house is currently decorated for Fall.  I took some pictures, but I settled on
this one.   This is my Fall wreath.  My mom made it for my birthday a few years ago.
I think it is beautiful.

2. Are trees changing in your area yet?  Do you mind showing a
fall photo from your area?  The trees do not change here where I live
until late October and I am not sure of it will be a very pretty Fall as dry as it
has been.  Right now, it still looks like summer....everything is green.  This is an
old picture from the neighbors yard, but the view is from my front porch.  It hasn't
been this pretty in years.

3.Do you like to use scents in your home? What kind do you use and
what scents do you enjoy in your home.  I get candles from Bath & Body Works
I am currently burning Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin, Autumn and Pumpkin Apple.
I change my scents with the seasons. I do not care for Spring/Summer scents though, so
I am happy right now with the smells in my house.

4. Fall's weather usually turns a bit chilly. Sometimes we change how we
eat by seasons. Can you share a nice recipe for a good fall meal with us?
I do not really use recipes, I just make things.  Things we eat more in the Fall and Winter
are chili, chicken and dumplings, potato soup...warm things like that.
