Sunday Stealing- Halloween

Halloween

1. Have you ever played with a Ouija Board?
We did in college twice I think.  Nothing
happened, but it freaked me out.  Not my
thing.

2. Favorite horror monster or villain?
don't have one that I can think of.

3. If you were dared to spend the night in a
haunted house”, would you do it?  nope

4. Are you superstitious?  no

5. Do you ever see figures in your peripheral vision?  no, but sometimes light
or shadows in my peripheral vision can spook me.

6. Ever made a potion of any sort?  no, I had a parent at the preschool
that was into witchcraft though and she sent the director of our program
a potion...grinded up dried leaves or whatever and it broke out the director
so bad she had to see a doctor.  When I told the director about the parent
being a witch, it scared her.

7. Do you get scared easily?  kind of

8. Have you ever played Bloody Mary?  no

9. Would you ever go to a graveyard at night?  yes, I think
graveyards are peaceful.

10. Would you rather go to a Halloween party or go trick or treating?  neither

11. Whilst watching scary movies, are you the person who yells at the characters,
he person with their eyes covered the whole time, or the person who falls asleep.
I am the person that is on the edge of my seat yelling at the characters.

13. How old were you when you saw your first horror movie?
I am not sure.

14. What was your first Halloween costume?  The first one I remember
was a ghost.

15. If you could have a spooky Halloween pet (black cat, owl, bat, rat, wolf),
what would you pick?  I think it would be super cool to have an owl, but
I will go with the wolf.

BTW....Friday we had our Fall party at school.  We dressed up and had
a costume parade in the halls, we did pumpkin bowling and had glow
sticks that we did stem activities with. We had a really fun party for the
pre-k kids with their parents and it was over in a blink.  I had a great time
and I hope the kids did too.  Our public relations director snapped a
picture of me at the parade, so I thought I would share.  My kids were
walking right behind me, but you can't see them in this picture.
Happy Halloween!

Saturday 9- Werewolves of London

Werewolves of London

Saturday 9: Werewolves of London (1978)

Unfamiliar with this week's featured song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Warren Zevon sees a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand. He wanted beef chow mein. If we Saturday 9ers got together for Chinese, what would you likely order?   General Chicken, egg roll and crab rangoon.

2) He also says the werewolf's hair was perfect. Are you having a good hair day?  Not bad.  It is raining today, but my hair looks ok.

3) Linda Ronstadt was a big Warren Zevon fan and recorded several of his songs. Do you have a favorite Linda Ronstadt song?  You're No Good

4) Warren Zevon admitted being afraid of doctors and avoided check ups. Are you scared when you go to the doctor or dentist for a routine visit?  I am not scared to go to the dentist.  I go regularly and have been seeing my dentist for 3o years.  I don't even mind having cavities filled.   The doctor is another story.  As I get older, I worry about what the doctor will say. Every year I go in expecting there to be something wrong.  So far, I have been fine.

5) In 1935, the movie Werewolf of London was released. Do you enjoy being frightened by scary movies?  it depends.  If it is a movie I think it stupid and just tries to scare you with noises or starling you...then no.  If it is a truly scary story then yes.  It is about the story for me.

6) In your younger days, did you ever trick or treat while dressed as a monster?no, I remember being a clown, nurse, ghost.  I think I was a cheerleader one year too, but never a monster.

7) When you were a kid, what sweet treats were you happiest to receive?  chocolate probably.  I don't remember eating much of the candy.

8) Can you see any Halloween decorations as you answer these 9 questions?  no, it has been so rainy, I haven't had Karl go outside to get them from our shed.  Now I will just decorate for Thanksgiving.

9) Halloween is most popular in the United States and Canada and isn't really celebrated at all in Japan or South Korea. How would you explain our Halloween customs to a visitor from another land?  Good question.  I would probably google the history of Halloween and then talk about how it is mostly celebrated by kids now in fun ways.  Halloween is weird.  Happy Halloween!

2. What colour is your favourite hoodie? gray and light blue

I wake up.  Things just go faster if my clothes are laid out

5. How are you feeling RIGHT now?  I am fine.  I am waiting to watch
a Hallmark movie...which is a Christmas one, so I am excited.

with my emotions.

13. Have you ever counted to 1,000?  I probably did when I was younger.

14. Do you bite into your ice cream or just lick it?  bite and I think it is
weird every time I do it.

15. Do you like your hair?  I do.  I used to hate my curls, but I have learned
how to work with them over the years and what kind of hair products to use
to make them look better.

Saturday 9- Bang!

Bang!

Saturday 9: Bang! (2020)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about a young man who is living on his own and doing adult things, like getting his own apartment, eating better and doing his own taxes, but he doesn't yet feel grown up. Do you remember when you felt like a grown up?  This is sad, but not until I had my son Josh.  I was 27 when he was born.  I am a bit of a free spirit.  I used to be anyway.

2) He mentions not being sure of his login password. Is this something you struggle with? Or are you able to zip into your accounts?  I do not struggle with this.  I have them written down if I forget.

3) Both the video and CD cover show the band playing games of chance. What's the last game that you played?  Connect Four with the 4th graders last year, but we will be playing games in recess when it gets cold.  I need to buy the kids more games.

4) This week's featured band, AJR, is named for the three brothers who make up the trio -- Adam, Jack and Ryan Met. Until recently, all three brothers lived at home and wrote songs together in the Met family living room. Do you have siblings? If so, what's something you enjoy doing together?  I do not have siblings.  I am also a bit of a loner when I can be.  I am around so many people at school, I sometimes like to just be alone.  I think that is because I am an only child.  I have enjoyed vacations with Karl's (my husband's) sisters though.

5) The oldest Met brother, Adam, now lives with his girlfriend in an apartment near Columbia University, where he is a PhD candidate. During the school year, he only works on his music on weekends. Next summer, in 2022, he should be done with his studies and plans on touring the country with the band. Some tour dates are already scheduled. If possible, do you like to make plans far in advance? Or do you prefer spontaneity?  I love spontaneity, but if I am planning an expensive trip, I like to be able to plan in advance and find good deals and fun things to do.

6) Jack and Ryan also attend Columbia and share an apartment with their dog. They like to unwind on Fridays, after a week of classes, with a game of air hockey, followed by sushi or sashimi at their favorite Japanese restaurant. What did you do on Friday night?  I scheduled Zoom parent/teacher conferences for Monday and emailed the link to the parents.  We offered in person and zoom, I had 4 parents want zoom.  Monday I will finish up my conferences.  I have had three already and I have 15 more to go.

7) In 2020, the year this song was popular, the most streamed TV show was The Office. The show went off the air in 2013, but during the pandemic and quarantine, it found a new audience. What series have you binged on recently?  I watched as much as I could of the show One of Us is Lying.  I read the book by Karen McManus and the show is really good.  It is on Peacock.  I will have to purchase to keep watching, but I saw the first three shows, they were free to watch.

8) According to Amazon, the best-selling novel of 2020 was Where the Crawdads Sing. Is there a novel you'd like to recommend to Sat 9ers?  People We Meet on Vacation was good by Emily Henry.  I actually laughed out loud while reading that one.  It is about two best friends and guy and a gal that go on vacation every year since college.  They are professionals now one living in New York and one living in their hometown.  (This would make a good Hallmark movie).  It is romance/fiction/humor.  Anyway, it talks about the people that they meet while on their vacations.  It is so good.  Anyway, something goes wrong and they stop taking vacations together, but the the gal (Poppy) decides to try to convince her friend (Alex) to take just one more vacation together to try to fix their friendship.

9) Random question: Your local drug store has self-check out. You confess to your best friend that you absent-mindedly missed scanning an item, walked out of the store with it, set off security and were caught unintentionally shoplifting. The store manager believed you so there were no repercussions, but you were mortified nevertheless. Would you expect your best friend to share your embarrassing story with his/her spouse?  Oh yes, totally.  I would be embarrassed, but since it worked out, I would try to laugh it off.

BTW...Bang was my favorite current song last year.  I still love it.

Saturday 9: Livin' La Vida Loca (1999)

Livin' La Vida Loca

Saturday 9: Livin' La Vida Loca (1999)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Ricky Martin sings that he and the girl dance in the rain. Do you feel like dancing this morning?  I never feel like dancing in the mornings.  I am so sleepy when I wake up.  Now give me a couple of hours and I will dance.

2) The lyrics tell us the girl prefers champagne. When did you last enjoy a glass of the bubbly?  It has been a very long time.  Probably 30 years.

3) When Ricky first heard "Livin' La Vida Loca," he imagined  the subject of the song was a "Bond girl," the glamorous love interest of James Bond in the movies. Since 1962, there have been more than 20 Bond films. Have you seen any/many of them? Do you have a favorite Bond?  My husband loves them, but I do not care anything about them, so no favorite Bond.

4) Ricky tells interviewers that when he was very young, he'd sing in the family kitchen, pretending a wooden spoon was his microphone. Crazy Sam admits to lip synching into a black Magic Marker. When you gave imaginary concerts, what did you use as a microphone?  I used my hairbrush.  I love singing.

5) Ricky began working at the tender age of 9, performing in commercials. How old were you when you received your first paycheck?  15

6) Ricky does yoga to stay in shape. Have you ever tried yoga?  no, just a yoga pose here and there.

7) Ricky is of primarily Spanish descent, with a little French mixed in. When you think of French cuisine, what comes to mind?  desserts, I studied French, but I never did go to a French restaurant.  I thought that would have been such a fun field trip for our French classes, but we never went.  Probably too expensive...I really have no idea.

8) Ricky once had his own restaurant, Casa Salsa, in Miami Beach. Have you ever worked in food service?  I worked at McDonalds when I was in high school.

9) Random question: What is your best quality?  I am a good listener and encourager.

Tuesday 4 Meme- Blogging

Blogging

1. How often do you blog? What helps you blog.. what hinders you?  I typically
blog 1-3 times per week.  I always feel like I do not have much to say about my
real life, so I enjoy doing memes.  Sometimes I cannot do this particular meme
because it is during the week and I do not have time and sometimes on my
weekend memes I do not like the questions, so I sometimes do not fill them
out.  Even when I do have something to say about my real life... for example
the Molly story from a few weeks ago.  I just didn't have the energy to get on
here and make a post.  I honestly do not even think about it.  I probably would
have quit blogging if it weren't for these memes.  Thank-you Annie.  I love
keeping up with everyone.

2. What benefits do you get from blogging? Are there any?  I enjoy meeting
people and getting a glimpse into their world.  I get great ideas from my
blogging friends.  I have been blogging long enough that many of my
blogging friends are likfamily. I miss you all when I do not visit. I

3. Have you ever changed your blog theme?  I change my graphics all of the time,
but I am assuming you mean the layout.  I don't anymore.  I pretty much have
found a style that seems to work for me and I just change the graphics.  I used
to change it, but I just do not have time anymore.

4. Where do you get your ideas for blog posts?  I have always just posted about
what is going on in my life when I was blogging daily.  I have posted about books
I have read that I enjoyed because I want to share them.  I mostly just post memes
now, but I still feel like I am sharing about myself doing these.

Saturday 9- She's Not There

She's Not There

Saturday 9: She's Not There (1964)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about a young man who is upset his friends didn't warn him against a girl who turned out to be untrue. Have you ever involved yourself in a friend's love life with advice about a relationship?  no, I stay out of stuff like that.

2) According to legend, this song was inspired by a girl who called off her wedding just weeks before the ceremony, humiliating her fiance and breaking his heart. Do you know anyone who was similarly left at the altar?   no.  I am thankful I do not know anyone that was left at the altar.

3) The Zombies first played together as a bar band, popular at an English pub called The Blacksmiths Arms. What's the name of your favorite local restaurant or bar?  I do not go to bars anymore.  I enjoy going to Chili's and Applebee's, but a favorite restaurant might be El Lago a Mexican restaurant.

4) The Zombies broke up after a few years but put all acrimony behind them in 2019 when they reunited to perform at their induction into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Have you ever been to Ohio?  no.

5) While 1964 is remembered as the first year of the British Invasion, when rock bands from the UK dominated the airwaves, it was also the year Barbra Streisand became a major star, featured on the covers of both Time and Life. Are there any magazines in your home right now? If so, who is on the cover?  I do not get magazines anymore.  I  did when Josh was a baby.  I worked out all of the time, so I had Shape magazine and my Granie subscribed me to a cooking magazine when she was living.  There is a  Missouri Conservationist in my classroom (a magazine) for the kids to look at.

6) Also in 1964, actress Ena Hartman became one of the first African American actresses to have a speaking part on the country's top TV Western, Bonanza. Is your TV on right now, as you answer these 9 questions?  Yes, Karl is watching the baseball playoffs...Boston and Tampa Bay are playing.  I am going to bed when I am done with this.  It is Thursday night as I fill this out.

7) The "It's a Small World" ride was introduced at the 1964 New York World's Fair. It's now at Disneyland, Disney World, Disneyland Paris and Disneyland Hong Kong. Have you ever taken one of these Small World rides?  I have been on the one at Disney World.  I love that ride.

8) General Douglas MacArthur's memoir was published shortly before his death in 1964. It became a best seller. Was the last book you finished fiction or non-fiction?  Malibu Rising.  I have talked about it in another post.  It was a very good book.  I liked it a lot.

9) Random question: You find yourself calling the local garage often to get updates on your car repair. Every time you call, the person who answers the phone is abrupt to the point of rude. Do you: (1) let the person know you'd appreciate a change in tone; (2) ignore it; (3) complain to the boss?  I would ignore it.  I don't think #1 would get me anywhere.  It would just make the guy more angry.  I try to remember people may have had a bad day, or maybe they are going through something at home...and on and on.  You do not know what people are going through.  I would not complain unless they took me to an angry place myself, which doesn't happen very often.

Saturday 9- Cheeseburger in Paradise

Cheeseburger in Paradise

Cheeseburger in Paradise (1978)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Jimmy briefly attempts a healthier diet, which included sunflower seeds, carrot juice, zucchini and bulgur wheat. Do you pay attention to your daily consumption of vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, etc.?  not really.  I really should.

2) Jimmy sings that he'd like french fries with his burger. Do you prefer to dip your fries or drizzle the ketchup over them?  dip.  My dad always drizzled my fries with ketchup when I was a kid and I didn't mind it, but I prefer to dip them now.  I don't like getting ketchup on my fingers.

3) Which cheese would make yours a cheeseburger in paradise: American, cheddar, Swiss, bleu, Muenster, or Monterrey Jack?
I typically like American, cheddar or Monterrey Jack on burgers.

4) Buffett fans call themselves Parrotheads. Concert attire for a well-dressed Parrothead often includes a Hawaiian shirt and a foam fin hat. What will you be wearing tonight?  I am very casual on the weekend.  We do not usually go out and do anything, just rest. I will likely have on sweats and a t-shirt.

5) For someone with such an easygoing and laidback vibe, Jimmy is a very busy man. His business ventures include liquors, restaurants and hotels. He's also published eight books. All this in addition to making music! On a scale of 1 to 10 -- with 1 being lazy and 10 being highly motivated -- how would you rate yourself this morning?  Well on a Saturday I am going to be a 1.  I am closer to a 10 all week.  I rest on the weekend.

6) Jimmy has some very famous fans. Paul McCartney asked him to play at one of his parties, and Barack Obama invited him to perform at a fundraiser. If you could invite anyone -- anyone at all! -- to play at your party, who would you ask?  I really do not know.  I do not have a favorite singer.

7) Jimmy was born on Christmas Day. Does your birthday fall on a major holiday? If yes, do you mind "sharing" your special day?  no, my birthday was September 9th.  I guess it is close to Labor Day.

8) In 1978, the year this song was popular, the Susan B. Anthony Dollar was first minted. The initial design was not a hit with the public because vending machines could not accept it. What's the last thing you bought from a vending machine?  Barq's Rootbeer.  That is a story in itself.

9) Random question -- If today's your birthday, your zodiac sign is Libra. When did you last check your horoscope?  I never check my horoscope, but when I did, I was probably in high school or college.  I am a Virgo.
