Saturday 9- So Into You

Saturday 9

Saturday 9: So Into You (1977)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The singer says that he noticed the lady in question as soon as she walked into the room. Tell us about someone who made a powerful first impression on you.  Maybe when I met Stan Musial #6.  I was star struck...he is a Hall of Fame baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals in case you have never heard of him.  Here is a picture of the day I met him, he is with my son Josh here.

2) He sings that he's so into her, he can't think about other, more mundane things. Do you find you get easily distracted from your daily tasks? Or do you enjoy seeing your everyday chores through completion?  I try to see my tasks through, but sometimes I can be easily distracted.  I start thinking of other things I need to do and the next thing I know, I have several projects going.  I always see them through though.

3) The band took their name from Georgia's biggest city. Have you ever been to Atlanta?  I have driven through Atlanta on my way to Florida.

4) The Atlanta Rhythm Section once played the White House. President Carter's son, Chip, was a big fan and invited them to play at his 28th birthday party. How did you celebrate your last birthday?  My co-workers threw a party for me and showered me with gifts.  We do this with all of our co-workers so our birthdays are special.  My husband got me Chinese for dinner, which is a favorite.  Here is a picture of my gifts from my co-workers...a giant mum, which is gorgeous!  Pajamas, lotion, chocolate pretzels, popcorn and a candle.  Loved it!

5) Studio One, where the band made all their recordings, was torn down and replaced by a parking lot. Can you think of a structure that you missed, after it met with a wrecking ball?  no, not really...but I sure do miss the twin towers since 9/11/2001...not that I ever saw them in person, but on tv, they were so beautiful.

6) This song hit #7 on the US pop charts. 7 is the number most often chosen as "a lucky number." How about you? Do you have a lucky number?  no

7) Today the Atlanta Rhythm Section reunites with to play at classic rock concerts. What oldies band would you love to see again?  The Cars, The Beach Boys, The Cathedrals

8) In 1977, the star of NBC's Chico and the Man, Freddie Prinze, took his own life. Is there a celebrity death you found shocking?  Michael Jackson and Prince

9) Random question: What word do you always misspell?  cemetery

Sunday Stealing- Thought Provoking Questions

Sunday Stealing

1 When was the last time you tried something new?  Friday...my team at school made a Mexican lunch for me for my birthday and they made some things I had never tried and they were delicious!
2
Who do you sometimes compare yourself to?  I do not really compare, but I work with another teacher that is so positive.  I TRY to be like her and boot out the negative.
3
What’s the most sensible thing you’ve ever heard someone say?  I am not sure about the most sensible thing I have ever heard in my life, but this morning at church the Pastor was talking about how situations in our life are all about how we "frame" them, we can either look at the negative aspects of something or we can go into a situation with a good perspective.  It is all about perspective and a good attitude.  What is the good that came from the situation?
4
What gets you excited about life?  Knowing that God is going to do something awesome every single day.
5
What life lesson did you learn the hard way?  God is truly in control and not me.  There are so many times in my life where I thought I was going one direction and God changed it.  It is always a good change though.
6
What do you wish you spent more time doing five years ago? more vacations
7
Do you ask enough questions or do you settle for what you know?  I ask so many questions all of the time or I google what I can.
8
Who do you love and what are you doing about it?  My family.  We spend time together and communicate.  I tell them I love them.
9
What’s a belief that you hold with which many people disagree? I would say it is my passion for doing something about Autism.  I worry about these kids for their future.  There are so many of them and I am concerned there will not be enough people to take care of them in the future.  They are in school now and living with family.  That will not always be the case.  Their parents will die.  Then what?  I know families that all of their kids have autism, so you cannot always depend on the family to step up and take care of them.  What is causing it?  It was not like this when I was in school.

It seems like people are complacent about it.  These are the kids I teach and yes, I worry about them.  BTW, one of my students with autism I had...his mom died over the summer and she was in her 30's, I also had a dad die when I was teaching his son with autism.  These things happen. :(
10 What can you do today that you were not capable of a year ago?  I can eat more things because I had my gall bladder removed.  That is kind of exciting to me.  I am sure I can do more things in the area of education, but I am not sure when I learned what.
11
Do you think crying is a sign of weakness or strength?  strength, it just needs to be done to release emotions sometimes.  I cry when I am angry too.  It is good to be able to control your emotions and yes, I think you can help that through crying.  Sometimes I cry and then I am fine and I can move on.
12
What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?  I am not sure.  If I think of anything, I will update my answer.
13
Do you celebrate the things you do have?  Oh yes!  This goes back to the way I like to look at situations.  If something bad happens, what was the good that came out of it.  I am thankful for the "things" I have too.
14
What is the difference between living and existing?  Maybe you get out there and make a difference in your life...have a job, or you are a friend, maybe you volunteer...actively living...interaction. Existing...maybe those people who are only plugged in to technology all of the time.  I use it too, but I mean people who use it all of the time and never get out and do anything or talk to anyone, even online.  You can make a difference online too.
15
If not now, then when?  Not sure what this means, but I am a do it now person.
16
Have you done anything lately worth remembering?  My co-workers and I plan events together and we go out and enjoy one another.  Friday we had a party for myself and another co-worker.  It will be memorable for me.  I try to make their celebrations memorable too.  We have an outing planned to go shopping soon.  That will be fun too.
17
What does your joy look like today?  I am in a positive place today.  Probably because of the great church service this morning.
18
Is it possible to lie without saying a word?  yes
19
If you had a friend who spoke to you in the same way that you sometimes speak to yourself, how long would you allow this person to be your friend?  Wow!  What a great question!  I think we are all our own worst enemies...we talked about that last week.  I would not want or allow someone to be around me if they treated me the way I treat myself.  Interesting.  How could I judge someone for doing the same thing I do.  I can only handle so much.
20
Which activities make you lose track of time?  facebook
21
If you had to teach something, what would you teach?  I do teach, I teach special education preschool (ECSE)-Early Childhood Special Education.
22
What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?  not traveling more, we really need to get on that.  That is how memories are made.  My husband has a job that does not allow for much vacation.

23Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?  I have in the past, but I usually am able to let go of things now.  I have learned it only hurts me to hold on to hurt.
24
When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?  That I loved and spent time with my family and taught them about Jesus and that I know Jesus.

25 When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards and just do what you know is right?  I always do what I think is right and yes, that comes with risk.

Saturday 9- Listen People

Listen, People

Saturday 9: Listen, People (1966)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Basically Herman is telling us that we each both break hearts and have our hearts broken during our lifetime. Do you agree?  I do agree, I think you will have your heart broken over something at some point and you will somehow break someone's heart even if you do not mean to.

2) He implores us to take his advice. Have you more recently given or received advice?  I was asked for advice this week, not sure how much help I was though.  It was a sensitive topic.

3) Herman's real name is Peter Noone. He was popular with girls because of his bright, toothy smile. How's your oral health? When are you due to go to the dentist?  I believe I go again in January.  We go every 6 months to have our teeth cleaned and we have any cavities fixed at that time.

4) Peter/Herman got married on his 21st birthday. That's one way to make sure you don't forget your anniversary. Do you have a good memory for anniversaries and birthdays?  no!  I am the worst!  I have to write them all down to remember.  I do like facebook for helping me remember friend birthdays.

5) Between 1965 and 1971, the Hermits worked very hard. They appeared on all the major TV shows of the day, recorded albums, made a movie and then criss-crossed the United States and the United Kingdom, performing live. After those six years, Peter decided he'd had enough and left the group. Have you ever felt burned out and ready for a change?  Yes, before I changed jobs, the school I was working for was odd.  It stressed me out.  It was a unique situation, it was a co-op and not a school district, so I was on my own to figure everything out.  Not a great place to thrive.

6) In 1966, when this song was popular, the miniskirt took the fashion world by storm. What's the most recent piece of clothing you added to your wardrobe?  probably a school t-shirt.

7) In 1966, TVs were expensive pieces of furniture. A set with a 16" screen and a wood console sold for $250, which is $1,950 in today's dollars. Tell us about your TV. How big is it? Where did you buy it?  We have a 50 inch flat screen smart tv we bought at Best Buy.  TV's do not cost much anymore.  We bought my mom and dad one for Christmas one year.

8) David Schwimmer, aka Ross on Friends, was born in 1966. Who was your favorite FriendRachel, I always loved her hair and her style.  I am close in age to the actors in the cast of Friends.

9) Random question -- Describe your dream car.  I do not really have a dream car, I just want a new car.  I own a Toyota Camry...GREAT car.  It is a 2001 and still drives great...no problems.  I would keep it, just want a newer model too.  I probably will not do that, so I will keep my older Camry.  They run forever!

my fall wreath

My mom came up and picked up Josh on Tuesday and they went out and had lunch together.  Josh seemed in such a better mood that evening.  I wish he would get out more, even if it is just running errands with us.  Anyway, my mom brought my wreath she made for my birthday.  I really like it.  You can click on it to see it better, it is hard to see very well so small.  I started decorating out in the yard and I did decorate my house for fall.  I still need my mums to make it complete outside.  We had a couple of cool days last week and so I thought that was a great time to decorate.  It is hot again now.  I am ready for the humidity to go.  I really love summer, but once school starts, I need it to be cool for recess.  It is miserable, let me just tell you.  Then on Friday my mom came and got Josh and took her down to her house and I always go visit there after work.  We had fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, bread and carrots.  It was really good.  She also made a lemon cake from scratch for dessert.
I rested over the weekend and did my fun memes here at my blog.  I am still not 100% from my cold.  It has been 2 weeks.  I am still coughing a little bit, but I am so much better.  I am going to try to get to bed early tonight.  Have a nice week!

Saturday 9- Teenage Dream

Saturday 9

Teenage Dream

Saturday 9: Teenage Dream (2010)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Much of the video for this week's song takes place in a convertible and on the beach. How's the weather where you are? Would you be comfortable riding around with the top down today?  It has been near 90º and will be next week too.  We have high humidity, so no.  I would not want to the top down.

2) This video was filmed all around Katy Perry's hometown of Santa Barbara. Amtrak runs through Santa Barbara via The Pacific Surfliner. Tell us about a memorable train trip.  My husbands Grandmother's last wish was to take a train ride, so we all got together and the whole family went on a short ride into Arkansas from Missouri.  My son actually was a baby and started taking his first steps that were not wobbly on that train.  It was sad because Grandma Ray was dying, but it was nice having all of his family together for her.

3) Katy sings that her boyfriend thinks she's funny, even when she gets the punchline wrong. Do you think you're a better joke-teller or audience?  audience for sure.  I love to laugh at jokes, even if they are stupid.  I mess up punch lines too.  Not much of a joke teller.

4) Her "teenage dream" lover is shown working out with a heavy bag. When is the last time you visited a gym?  Oh dear lord!  It has been years!  I have a treadmill at home and workout videos.  I workout at home...when I workout that is.  It was before I got married that I worked out in a gym, so 21 years ago.

5) Katy changes her hair a lot. She's gone from long black hair to cropped blonde hair with stops at red, green and purple. Today, are you having a good hair day?  My hair is naturally curly, it does what it wants.  It doesn't look awful today though.

6) Katy thinks dimples are "irresistible" and can't help poking a finger when a dimpled friend smiles. Do you have dimples?  not really
7) Two of Katy's fragrances (Meow and Purr) are sold in cat-shaped bottles. Are you wearing a scent as you answer these questions?  I do not like to wear purfume...my son has sensitive skin and I stopped wearing it when he was a baby and never started wearing it again as he got older...so no.  I do not even have my smelly good lotion on.
8)  Katy's favorite dessert is ice cream (specifically Cold Stone Creamery's Birthday Cake Remix). What's the last dessert you ate?  I think I had some oreos last night.

9) Random question: How often do you change your bedsheets?  every week

checking in...

I ended up taking the day off on Tuesday after Labor Day because I was still sick.  I am doing much better now, but I still have a cough.  I felt so terrible last weekend.  I just wanted to sleep.
Josh quit taking his medicine this week.  He said it was making him sleep too much and it was making him sick.  I am not sure what he means by that.  He has a more normal sleep cycle now, but he is back to staying in his room all of the time.  The doctor said he could prescribe another medication or he could wait to see his psychiatrist.  Josh wants to wait.  He does not go to see him until October.  This all stresses me out.  I just pray about it and hope that one day he will be better.
I finally got to go and visit my mom on Friday.  I have had that training for the past two weeks for work and have been coming straight home.  We had a nice visit.  She has made me a wreath for my birthday.  I am excited to see it.  She is going to bring it up on Tuesday.  She is coming up to get Josh and they are going to go eat lunch together.  I will share a picture of it next week.
It is so funny.  Toward the end of the week I started really looking forward to blogging over the weekend!  I always enjoy it, but I was excited to get home and blog.  I am so glad to have this outlet again.
My birthday was yesterday-9/9.  I did not do too much.  We did eat my favorite Chinese though and that was really good!

Saturday 9- Gotta Travel On

Saturday 9

Gotta Travel On

Saturday 9: Gotta Travel On (1959)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, the Billy Grammer sings that "summer's almost gone, winter's coming on." When you look out your window, do you see any evidence that the seasons are changing?  There are a few dead leaves here and there, but for the most part the grass is green and so are the trees and still hot, although it is supposed to be cooler next week.  I am hoping.

2) He admits he has laid around and played around for too long. Do you consider lazy days to be wasted days?  not at all, I rarely completely waste a day though.  Even my lazy days are productive, I bet most people would say that.  It is hard for me to sit still very long.

3) Billy relaxed by fishing. Tell us about a visit you made to a pier, or a ride you took on a boat, this past year. (Bonus points if you went fishing!)  I haven't been fishing or boating in years and I live near a lake.   I saw Phantom of the Opera!  Does that count?  It is not really out in nature, I went to a baseball game too.

4) Born in 1925, Mr. Grammer was the eldest of 13 children. He and his wife Ruth were childless. What do you think is the ideal size for a family?  I think if I had not had trouble after delivery (I had seizures) I would have had one more.  So two kids.

5) This song was very popular on juke boxes back in 1959. When were you last in a bar or restaurant that had a juke box? Did you play it?  I remember a bar when I was in college that had a juke box and yes, I played it!  I love juke boxes.  That was in 1992 or so.

6) In 1959, movie tickets zoomed up in price to $1.00 and Ben Hur was the big blockbuster. What's the last movie you saw in a theater? Do you remember how much the ticket cost?  We haven't been to the theater in a while, so I am thinking the movie was Beauty and the Beast...the one with people a couple of years ago.  I can't remember ticket prices, but they are ridiculous...another reason we do not go very often.

7) Huckleberry Hound was a hit with the younger audience in 1959. What cartoon did you enjoy as a kid? Smurfs and Looney Toons!

8) In 1959, continuing dramas (soap operas) were still broadcast each day on the radio. When you turn on the radio, do you listen for talk, news, or music? mostly music, occasionally a baseball or football game if I am driving and every so often talk radio.  I like John Tesh, Intelligence for Your Life.  I used to listen to Focus on the Family.

9) Random question -- Which competition would you rather judge: The Pillsbury Bake Off, The Miss America Pageant, or Dancing with the Stars? Pillsbury Bake Off so I could taste the yummies!  I would not want to judge any of these though, I am better at vocals, so I am better suited for The Voice.

My Day so far #3

My Day So Far

The date today:
Labor Day
September 3, 2018
How's the weather?
Partly Cloudy high of 88º,
it is currently 75º as I type this.
What are you wearing?
my pajamas still, black top and bottoms
What chore around the house have you been putting off?
Cleaning out my closet
Is there anything in your fridge you need to throw out?
What?  Do you even recognize it?
No,we cleaned it out today.
What are you reading?

I just read She Believes by Debbie Lindell.
It was amazing, it is a Christian book.

A scripture verse you'd like to share.
This is my favorite verse.

Is there a prayer request you'd like to share?
Pray for my son Josh.  He suffers from depression and anxiety and Friday he stopped taking his medication.  I just want him to be ok and it is scary for him to be off his medicine.

How about a creative project you are working on?
One in progress or one still in your head.
I am starting to think about fall decorating in my head.
I decorated my blog, but I am sick, so outside will have to wait.
What special dish or baked item are you planning for this week?
I am not sure.

Your latest acquisition?
Nothing new lately.

A photo you'd like to share?
This picture is myself and my co-worker Kris taken at our professional development training 2 weeks ago, the picture we took this Friday was too silly to share.  I know this is silly enough.  I am on the left if you are new to my blog.

A funny graphic, photo or quote?
Any parting thoughts?
I have been sick this whole long weekend, so I am hoping I get to feeling better soon and will be able to go back to school tomorrow.  It is just a cold, but I feel miserable.

Thank-you Melanie for the meme!  Click on the "My Day So Far" graphic to play along!

Saturday 9- She works hard for the money

Saturday 9

She Works Hard for the Money

She Works Hard for the Money (1983)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about a woman who works hard as a waitress. What's the hardest job you've ever had?  I guess teaching.  I love it though.  You have to teach to many diverse learners and that is not as easy as it sounds when you are teaching several children.  You also work with with many families.  It is a very rewarding job, but not easy.  Sometimes it is heartbreaking.

2) The lyrics tell us she has worked at this job for 28 years. What's the longest you stayed with one employer? 11 years

3) Donna Summer was inspired to write this song during an awards show. She ducked into the bathroom and met the elderly ladies' room attendant, whose job it was to make sure the room the spotless, the complimentary hairspray and moisturizer was abundant, and there was a hot towel for every celebrity who used the facilities. "Wow," Donna thought, "she works hard for those tips." Who is the last person you tipped?   It was a waitress at my son's birthday dinner.

4) Early in her career, Donna was in the touring company of the musical Hair. It played in Munich for so long that she became fluent in German. What's the longest you have ever lived away from home?  Like from my parents?  30 years.  I went to college (lived in that town 6 years,..Joplin, mo) and never really moved back home with  my parents.  Then moved to Kansas City, MO then back to Springfield, MO.  I do visit my mom every Friday now though.

5) Sam's dad is naturally outgoing and enjoys striking up conversations with waitresses, librarians, the checker at the supermarket, etc. Sam is always polite but more private. Are you more like father or daughter?  daughter.  I do not give information easily and I am not chatty with people usually until I get to know someone.  I guess I am more private too.

6) A little more than 10% of the American workforce is self-employed. Have you ever been your own boss?  no
7) Labor Day weekend may offer a golden opportunity for napping and sleeping in. Do you snore?  I never did when I was younger, but I think I do now, I have gained weight and I am sure that is the reason.

8) Will you be attending a Labor Day picnic or barbecue? no
9) Labor Day traditionally marks the beginning of the fall. Will you be adding any new fall clothes to your wardrobe?  not just yet.  It is still really hot here.  My fall/winter wardrobe is always in my closet ready to go though.
