Sunday Stealing- Unusual Music

https://sundaystealing.blogspot.com/

1. A song that gives you goosebumps.   How Great Thou Art when Elvis Presley sings it.
2.
A song you hated once but now love.  Stressed Out by Twenty-One Pilots.  There is a place where the song does not rhyme that bugs me in the beginning, and so I would always change the station when I heard it.  It took me forever to hear that song all the way.

3. Do you remember your first CD?  I think it was Metallica
4.
Has your music taste changed much since childhood?  not really
5.
Favorite genre?  I like many genres

6. What’s a genre or style of music that you just don’t understand?  rap, I just do not care for it.  Except for Eminem, I do kind of like him.
7.
Do you have a process for listening to music, such as listening to the instruments more than words?  I think as a kid I mostly listened to the instruments, but I more listen to the words now too, because I do not want to be singing something weird.
8.
What’s your favorite thing about your favorite song?  I don't really have a favorite song.
9.
Do you have a favorite decade for music?  80's

10. Can you play any instruments?  no.  I played flute in band for a year and played piano by ear a little, but other than that...no.
11.
Do you remember your first favorite song?  maybe something by Michael Jackson...I did have his Thriller album, but not a CD (question above)...but if that counts, then he was probably my first CD...but it was a record.  Hahahaha

12. What was the first concert you ever attended?  The Beach Boys

Saturday 9- Ooh La La

http://samanthasaturday9.blogspot.com/

Saturday 9: Ooh La La (2013)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) "Ooh la la" is defined as an interjection said when you think someone or something is "surprising, unusual or attractive." Looking back over this week, did you come across anything that deserves an "ooh la la?"  Maybe my dessert when I ate lunch with my friends on Wednesday.  We went to that little tea house again with the wonderful desserts.  I had coconut cream pie this time.

2) In this song, Britney Spears sings that she's eager to accompany you, even if you're not a millionaire. But let's say you suddenly become really rich. What's the first leisure trip you would take with your new funds? Who would you bring along? I would want to go to the beach.  Possibly go back to Orange Beach, AL to the gulf and visit the dolphins again, get a tan and relax.  I would go with my husband and son and we would take my mom.

3) Britney is eager to dance with you, even if you don't wear designer clothes. Let's say you need to add a blouse (or shirt) to your wardrobe. Where's your go-to for clothes shopping?  Maurices and Cato because they are so close to my house.

4) The video begins with Britney at the movies with her two young sons. Will you be seeing any family members this weekend?  Just my husband and son.  I need to make plans with my mom sometime next week.

5) This is a theme from the movie Smurfs 2. A Smurf is a little blue creature who lives in a mushroom-shaped house in the forest. Assuming that your home is not shaped like a mushroom and isn't in the forest, how would you describe your abode? (Mansion, ranch house, farm house, high-rise, igloo ...)  country cottage or bungalow

6) Britney admits to smoking and biting her nails. What bad habit do you wish you could break?  I bite my cuticles.  It is a nasty habit!

7) In 2013, when this song was popular, Pope Benedict resigned. Thinking over your working life, have you been more nervous on your first day of a job, or the last one?  first day for sure.

8) Also in 2013, golfer Phil Mickelson won the British Open. When did you most recently golf?  I do not golf, I am terrible at it.

9) Random question -- On what part of your body was the last itch you scratched?  My elbow.

just as regular update

https://bookpage.com/reviews/6719-fannie-flagg-i-still-dream-about-you-fiction#.XRKpdv57nIUI am going to go away from the meme's today and just make a normal post.  My summer is going way too fast, but I am having such a nice break.  Josh and I have been watching old movies and he picked out some books for me to read.  I finished The All Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg last week and I started I Still Dream About You also by Fannie Flagg.  I am currently still reading this one and I plan to check out The Secret To Hummingbird Cake by Celeste Fletcher Mchale next.  I am really enjoying reading.  Many of my blogging friends recommended books and I have been checking the library for them.  Josh had the Fannie Flagg books, so I started with those.  I love them.
It has been a year since Josh was diagnosed with his depression and anxiety and he really wasn't getting much relief until about a month ago.  The doctor finally got a good medication combination for him and he seems to be doing a little better.  He is volunteering at the library.  He puts away books and sets up for events.  He likes it.  I just thought this might be a step in the right direction for getting a job some day.  We are taking it slow and we will see what happens.  He is liking it for now though.
Today I met up with my co-workers and we went to eat at this little tea house called The Spring Creek Tea Room.  They have the best desserts I have ever had in my life.  I had the chicken salad Croissant sandwich, chips and a house salad with homemade ranch dressing and coconut cream pie for dessert. I was excited about it!  It is hard to get in there, so we made a reservation for noon.  We had a great time and then afterwards went to a little clothing boutique.  It was super cute too.
Thursday I go to my doctor for a check-up and blood work.  I always get nervous about blood work, not them doing it, just what it might turn up.  I will keep you posted.
We also took a trip to Arkansas a few weeks ago and we are planning to go again soon with Josh this time.  We want to go see Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville and The Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs.  Those will be separate trips.
Well, that is all I can think of.  One of my friends was asking about Josh and I realized I have mostly been making meme posts and not writing about what is going on with me currently.  So here it is.  Have a great day!

Sunday Stealing- Happy Questions

https://sundaystealing.blogspot.com/

1. Are you a happy person?  Definitely!

2.
What is happiness for you?  Just being alive and able to experience something new everyday.

3.
What do you think is the color of happiness?  yellow it reminds me of the sun

4.
Can money buy happiness?  It can buy you something to make you happy, but it cannot keep you happy...money cannot buy happiness.

5.
Is happiness a state of mind?  I think so.

6.
What are three things that make you happy?  Josh and he is pretty depressing sometimes.  Just him being himself makes me so happy.  My dogs make me happy and the kids I work with make me happy.

7.
Does having a pet make you happy?  YES!!!!  Mandy is the corgi in front, Meisha is the black lab mix and Molly is the corgi/blue heeler mix in the back.

8.
When was the happiest time of your childhood?  Christmas or any time I was with my Granie and Papa in Oklahoma.

9.
Can you be happy if you are rich?  yes, I am happy all of the time.

10.
Do you think happiness lies within you or does it depend on other people and external things?  It lies within you.  You cannot depend upon others...although it is contagious for me.  If I am around another happy person, I am even more happy.

11.
Are single people happy?  of course!

12,
What is the effect that animals/pets have on people to make them feel happy?  My pets are like little humans.  Mandy is my heart dog...she has always known when I am upset or sick and she will comfort me.  The other two are clowns, and they make me laugh.

13.
Can you be happy if you are poor?  I am kind of poor and I am still happy.

14.
What is there to be happy about in today’s world?  I do not dwell on things like other people.  I rarely watch the news and I watch positive tv shows.  There are so many things to be thankful and happy about.  If you can't find anything, you aren't looking.  Just take in nature.  The sun makes me happy.  The trees are beautiful and flowers!  So many things.  The ocean and mountains.  I will stop.

15.
How happy are you compared with your friends.  One of my co-workers is actually more upbeat than I am.  She and I are pretty happy and we have a ton of fun together with those little kids.

Saturday 9- Venus in Blue Jeans

http://samanthasaturday9.blogspot.com/

Saturday 9: Venus in Blue Jeans (1962)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Like the dream girl described in this song, Sam is wearing jeans as she composes this Saturday 9. Is there a lot of denim in your wardrobe?  Definitely.  I wear jeans almost every day.

2) Jimmy Clanton likens this girl to the Venus de Milo, the ancient Greek sculpture made of marble and now on display at the Louvre. Is there any marble in your home?  Not that I am aware of.

3) He refers to his girl as "Mona Lisa with a pony tail." The Mona Lisa is also at the Louvre. What's the last museum you visited?  We went to a Native American Museum in Muskogee, OK several years ago.    We are planning to go to an art museum in Arkansas this summer though.

4) This girl is so awesome, she's the 8th Wonder of the World! Without looking it up, could you name the other 7?  Oh goodness no.

5) Jimmy Clanton spent his entire professional life behind a microphone. After he quit selling records, he began spinning them as a DJ. Do you consider the sound of your voice one of your better qualities?  I used to think I sang good, but no, not really.

6) At age 80, Mr. Clanton still performs. He averaged an appearance/month in 2018. Some of his fans were surprised that he has let his pompadour go completely white. Do you color your hair?  I highlight my hair.

7) In 1962, when this song was popular, Americans were reading about 5-year-old First Daughter, Caroline Kennedy, and her pony, Macaroni. Tell us about a pet you had when you were very young.  Oh dear, we just had this question on Wednesday. I had a pet dog (shi'tzu) named Kai.  He was a gift from my Grandmother on my dad's side.  She was a shi'tzu breeder.  Well, my mom hates dogs, so she made us keep Kai outside and shi'tzu's have long beautiful hair.  Kai's hair was a matted mess.  I hate thinking about it really.  I always told myself I would never let my pets live outside when I got older and I haven't.  We had Kai several years and when I went to college he mysteriously died.  I mean, I don't believe that.  I think my parents had him put to sleep.  He would have been about 9 years old. *sigh*

8) Decades later, Caroline Kennedy was the first woman to serve as US Ambassador to Japan. Have you ever been to Asia?  no

9) Random question: When talking among themselves, who do you think is more open and honest about sex -- men or women?  I think as kids, neither tell the truth.

Wednesday Medley- NATIONAL GARFIELD THE CAT DAY

http://tdorsaneo.blogspot.com/

NATIONAL GARFIELD THE CAT DAY – June 19

National Garfield the Cat Day - June 19

1.  If you have ever followed the Garfield comic strip, you know Garfield loves lasagne.  What is your favorite Italian food?  Do you over-indulge when it comes to pasta?  I always get Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo.
2.  Tell us about your very first pet.  If you have never had a pet, can you tell us about an animal that touched your life in some way?  My first pet was a Shi'Tzu named Kai.  My mom made him live outside and if you are know about the breed of dog you know they have long hair and it would get matted.  I always said if I had dogs as an adult I would never let them live outside.  My mom hates animals.
3.  Garfield sleeps his day away, only waking to eat or sweet talk his girlfriend Arleen.  How many hours sleep do you normally get each night?  How much sleep do you really need?  I try to get 7-8 hours of sleep and I need 8 hours.
4.  Garfield lets the mice in the house have their way.  When was the last time you had to chase out a little varment?  Last summer I had birdseed in our house to feed the birds and it attracted mice.  We got rid of those and I am not feeding the birds anymore.  I have fed the birds for many years.  That had never happened before.
5.  Garfield also loves his teddy bear Pooky. Did you have a favorite stuffed animal when you were young (or now!)?  If you didn't or don't, what about someone you know?  I really never did have a favorite stuffed animal that I carried around or anything else for that matter.  I even tried to sleep with stuffed animals and I couldn't sleep.  Josh has a little stuffed dog he is attached to.  I think it helps him with his anxiety somehow.
6.  Please tell us something about your week, so far!  This is a busy week for me, but nothing fun to report about.  I have been reading a book Josh gave me to read  The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion By Fannie Flagg.  I am enjoying it very much.  It has been years since I have been lost in a book.  Has anyone read it?  It is an easy read like I had asked about in another meme.  Click the picture of the book to read a review about the book if you are interested.

Saturday 9- I Learned from You

http://samanthasaturday9.blogspot.com/

I Learned from You

Saturday 9: I Learned from You (2007)
... Because it's Father's Day weekend.
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is a duet by the father/daughter team, Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus. Is your family musically inclined?  no

2) This song is about life lessons. Who has been a major influence on your life?  My dad!  He passed away 2 years ago this month.  I did get to spend that one last Father's Day with him though.  I miss him so much.

3) Miley's given name is "Destiny." Her nickname as a baby was "Smiley," which is where Miley came from. What's something that can always be depended upon to make you smile?  My son Josh
  picture ---->>>

4) Miley's father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, has 5 children in addition to Miley (6 in all). Are you the oldest, the middle or the youngest sibling? Or are you an only child?  I am an only child.

5) Sam's own father often traveled for business, and always remembered to bring her the little complimentary soaps, shampoos or body lotion he got from the hotel. Tell us about an inexpensive but treasured souvenir from a trip you've taken.  I pick up key rings and beach towels on my adventures.  I do have shells from the beach too.

6) Back when Sam was in high school, it was her father who gave her driving lessons. Are you patient when teaching someone something new?  Yes

7) Sam's father is easy to buy for: every year he wants a new pair of loafers, so every year for Father's Day she gives him a DSW gift card. Is there anyone on your gift list that you find it easy to buy for?  My husband...he loves sports, so he loves anything having to do with his favorite teams.

8) For family barbecues, Sam's dad dons his "Kiss the Chef" apron and mans the Weber. What's the last thing you cooked on the grill?  Hamburgers and hotdogs.

9) Sam's father satisfies his afternoon sugar craving with an almost endless stream of Butter Rum Lifesavers. When you crave a snack, do you usually reach for something sweet or salty?  sweet...usually chocolate.

Wednesday Medley- NATIONAL MAKING LIFE BEAUTIFUL DAY

http://tdorsaneo.blogspot.com/

NATIONAL MAKING LIFE BEAUTIFUL DAY

1.  Tell us about a time you made someone's life beautiful or someone made YOUR life beautiful.  Since this sort of just happened, I will talk about how the parents at the preschool made me feel so loved at the end of the school year with all of their kind words, gifts, sweet tea and candy.  Their children make my life beautiful also.  Currently though my son is making my life beautiful by sharing the movies he loves and books too.  I just love spending time with him.

2.  Will you take on the challenge and smile more often on June 15th?  Why not start now!!  Have you been blessed by a smile that changed your day?  I have.  It always makes me feel so much happier to be greeted with a smile.  I always smile and tell people good morning or hello.  It is so easy to do and free too!  Just do it!

3.  Terri is a cancer survivor.  Cancer has touched most of us in one way or another.  When did someone reach out to you with an act of kindness or when did you last perform a random act of kindness for someone?  When my dad passed away from complications from Alzheimer's there were so many people that reached out to me to share stories about my dad and how he had touched their lives.  My dad was a high school teacher.  It really did make that awful time better to know how much everyone loved him.  This picture is of he and I when I graduated college.

4.  Terri admits that this turned out to be not what she thought it would be.  Our country has come a long way in recognizing that people are people and our differences are what makes life beautiful, but we still have a long way to go, unfortunately.  Your thoughts?  I agree.  I think this country has come a long way.  I also believe that things do not change over night and we have to be patient.  I think things will continue to get better.

5.  Had to lighten it up a bit.  Terri is a total klutz in the kitchen.  Tell us about something klutzy that happened in your kitchen... by you or another!  Can you laugh about it now?  This is so embarrassing!  I was frying some chicken and my stove burner was having some trouble, well the next thing I know...the burner is on FIRE!  I grab my chicken off and get the fire put out.  The burner was ruined...my chicken was not though, I turned on another burner and moved my chicken to another pan...the pan was ruined too...and finished cooking it and it was delicious.  I mean...who starts a FIRE in their kitchen?  I DO!!!  Yes, I do laugh about it now.  I laughed about it that night!

6.  Share something about your week so far, if you would.  Those of you who have been following my blog know last summer my son was diagnosed with depression and anxiety.  They have had a really hard time finding the right medicine for him.  It either doesn't help or the side effects are too much.  Well, he seems to have a good combination right now AND...he started volunteering at the library this week.  He has never worked...his anxiety is too bad.  I thought, well what if you volunteer for a couple of days a week...then if he wanted to stop, it would not be a big deal.  Well, so far so good.  He is loving his volunteering at the library.  He chose this because he thinks it will be slow paced and not bother his anxiety too much.  I just want him to realize he CAN get out there and meet people and be ok.  I will keep you posted.

Tuesday 4 Meme- What Would You Do?

https://mytuesday4meme.blogspot.com/

What Would You Do?

1.   Coming home from a night out you notice your garage door opened. What Would You Do?  I would most likely be with Karl and Josh, so I would just follow them.  It would be possible that Karl left the garage door open.  If they were not with me, they would be in the house.

2.   Getting ready to shop at the supermarket you realize you left your keys in the car. What Would You Do?  I would have to take care of the key situation first.  If Karl was close he could come with my spare key, if not I would have to call a locksmith.  I probably would not go grocery shopping after all that either.

3.   Coming home from work tired you forgot you have guests coming for dinner and nothing to serve them. What Would You Do?  I would never forget something like that, but I would stop at the grocery store and buy some food to make.  Hopefully I would not lock myself out of the car.

4.   Your daughter calls you at work and says she missed the school bus and you have no car. What Would You Do?
We have a lot of family around where we live, so my mom or mother-in-law could help and they did when Josh was in school.

Saturday 9- I'm Moving On

http://samanthasaturday9.blogspot.com/

Saturday 9: I'm Moving On (1965)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Chyvonne Scott sings that she's sick of her lover's "conniving." Tell us about a time you felt deceived. (It doesn't have to involve romance.)  I try to put things like that out of my mind.  I cannot think of one.  It has happened though.

2) She realizes it's time to move on to another love. What's your favorite love song? Is it about a relationship that's running smoothly? Or is it like "I'm Moving On," about an unhappy love affair?  I am having trouble thinking of one right now, I always had favorites when I was in high school, but I cannot remember the names of them.  I like happy songs.

3) Though Chyvonne Scott enjoyed only limited success as a recording artist, she was very popular in New York clubs. When did you most recently listen to music performed live?  We do not get to do this very often.  I can't even remember!

4) In 2017, this song appeared on a Samsung commercial that poked fun at rival iPhone. Is your cell phone an Apple or Android? How did you choose your phone?  We have Samsung Galaxy phones (android) and my husband went and picked them out many years ago, I wasn't even with him.  I didn't care, I just wanted a smartphone.  Our son has always had an iphone.  He insists on having apple technology.  When we upgrade we keep our Samsung's and he keeps his iphone.

5) Chyvonne is an unusual name. In 1965, when this song was first released, the most popular baby names in the US were Michael and Lisa. Do you have any Michaels or Lisas in your life?  I have a couple of Michael's, but no Lisa's.  There were so many when I was younger, it isn't like those people are not around anymore....I just do not see them anymore.  Even my name (Lori) is not a common name anymore...BUT...there are several Lori's where I work and I just love that.  It makes me sad that my name is not popular anymore.

6) Also in 1965, Winston Churchill died. In researching this week's Sat. 9, Sam discovered a Churchill quote that's new to her: "I am always ready to learn although I do not always like being taught." Share something interesting that you recently learned.  My son is trying to help me find books.  I am wanting to read some easy, but really good fiction books and he is trying to help.  I like books that are harder to read, but right now, I just want an easy quick read.  If you know of any...drop the title and author in the comments!  I will write them down and look for them.  I really need to read more and I want to read more. I just pick the wrong books.  It needs to capture my attention right away.  Josh also shows me really great older movies.

7) In 1965, one of the most successful movies ever made, The Sound of Music, was released. Have you ever seen it?  Yes, I love it.

8) Lava lamps were already popular in England and Brussels, but in 1965 they were introduced in the US. Do you think lava lamps are cool? I love them, I think they are super relaxing to watch.

9) Random question -- You have to buy something very personal that you find embarrassing. Would you rather pay cash for it, so your identity would be unknown but you'd have to face the cashier? Or order it online, where you could avoid looking anyone in the eye, but you have to share your name and address?  I do not buy anything that embarrassing, so I guess I would buy it in person.  It really does depend on the convenience though, if I am going to have to drive a while for something I will order it online.
