Saturday 9: Please Come Home for Christmas

Please Come Home for Christmas

Saturday 9: Please Come Home for Christmas (1992)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this video, Jon Bon Jovi recalls decorating the tree with Cindy Crawford. They took turns wearing a Santa hat. Will anyone in your household be donning a Santa hat this season?  That will be me.  We are having a wear  Santa Hat day at school the same day as Santa visits, so I will be wearing my Santa hat that day.

2) He sings of the salutations he's received from friends and relatives. Have you received many holiday cards this year?  no, how sad is that?  It gets worse every year.  I did send out cards.

3) Will you wrap many presents? Or do you prefer to use gift bags?  I wrapped 17 gifts for my pre-k kids and I always wrap Josh's.  Everyone else's are in gift bags.

4) Jon Bon Jovi says he and Frank Sinatra are distant relatives. Do you believe that musicality is a genetic gift, or that it can be taught?  I definitely think it is genetic, but it can be learned too.

5) Jon is such a big Star Wars fan that he wrote a carol called "R2-D2: We Wish You a Merry Christmas." There a dozen Star Wars movies. How many have you seen?  a few...Karl has seen all of them.  They are ok, just not my thing.

6) Jon once guest-starred as Carrie's love interest in an episode of Sex and the City, the popular HBO sitcom set in New York. The new reboot, And Just Like That, also centers around NYC life. Where does your favorite TV show take place?  Yellowstone, it takes place in Montana.

7) Jon met his wife, Dorothea, when they were still in high school. Do you remember who you wanted to marry when you were in high school?  Probably David, my high school boyfriend.  It wasn't a teenage tv star or anything.

8) At Christmastime 1992, when this song was released, toys that tied into Disney's Little Mermaid were very popular. Have you purchased toys for anyone on your gift list this year?  no, I usually get the dogs toys for Christmas, but I am leaning more toward some treats.

9) Jon recorded "Please Come Home for Christmas" to benefit The Special Olympics. Here's your chance to plug a cause or organization that's near and dear to you.  Convoy of Hope.  They recently helped get supplies to the tornado victims.

Sunday Stealing- Fauxklore

Fauxklore

1. Have you ever been caught outdoors away from shelter during a thunderstorm?
During a thunderstorm yes, a tornado...no.  I keep an eye on that kind of
weather really close.  We had tornadoes Friday night.   I try to stay safe
during thunderstorms too, but sometimes I am out driving and just have
to get home as fast as I can.  I keep an eye on radar.

2. Did you ever build furniture forts as a child?  Yes, with blankets and chairs.

3. Do you use any medicines daily?  yes.

4. When was the last time you used a disposable camera?  I am thinking Josh's
first birthday or maybe a wedding around the same time.

5. When was the last time you flew on a plane?  never

6. How many first cousins do you have?  only 6

7. What’s the longest period of time you’ve gone without sleep? only like
36 hours or so.  I stayed up one time to study for a test.  I only did that
one time.  I sleep pretty good, so I am usually able to get to sleep.

8. Did the house you grew up in have a big yard?  yes, very big.  The
house next door to us burned when I was little and my parents bought
the property next door so that would never happen again.  It almost
burned our house too.  Anyway, I had my yard and that yard to play in.

9. What has been the most difficult class you’ve ever taken?  Probably
trigonometry. I am not good at math.

10. What’s something that’s much more difficult than a lot of people realize?
loss, everyone deals with loss differently.  It can cause trauma, depression,
it can change your life.  I am talking any kind of loss...a death, job, marriage, etc.

11. What are some things a house would need to have for you to purchase it?
large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, fenced in yard.  We have a large bedroom in
our current house and when we looked at houses in the past, we could not
find a house with bedrooms as big as ours, so I didn't like them.

12. Would you ever go out in public wearing pajamas?  no, that is not something
I would do.

13. Have you ever had a lemonade stand?  no

14. Do you think you look older or younger than your real age?  I am told I look
younger.

15. Where have you lived throughout your life?  I lived in Kansas for 6 months
up around Kansas City and the rest of my life has been in Missouri...5 years
in Joplin for college and a job and the rest in the Springfield/Branson area.

Saturday 9: Drivers License

Drivers License

Saturday 9: Drivers License (2021)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about a girl who just got her drivers license. Who taught you to drive?  My dad.

2) Do you like your drivers license/state ID photo?  It is ok, I have always had pictures that were decent.  I have seen crazy ones though for other people.

3) Think back to the first ticket you received. How old were you, and what was it for?  I was probably around 23 or so and I was driving too fast in a school zone.  It was when I lived in Kansas City and I quickly found out their police stop everyone there (Overland Park, KS).

4) In this week's song, Olivia Rodrigo is brokenhearted, driving through her boyfriend's neighborhood, certain that he has taken up with the sophisticated blonde girl. When it comes to romance, do you have a jealous streak?  I did when I was young, but I do not now.

5) Olivia grew up in Temecula, California. Temecula is home to 40 wineries and dozens of tasting rooms. Have you ever attended a wine tasting?  no

6) Her first on-screen appearance was in a commercial for Old Navy stores. Old Navy is owned by the same company as Banana Republic, Gap and Athletica. Have you done any of your holiday shopping at one of those stores? (Yes, their websites count.)  no, not any of those stores.  I got some things for Josh from Hollister though.

7) She went on to star in projects for Disney studios. That's also how pop stars Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, and Christina Aguilera got started. Arguably the first teen star created by Disney studios was Annette Funicello. Do you remember her?  a little, it seems like I have seen pictures or something.

8) "Drivers License" was one of this year's most popular songs. One of this year's most popular books is John Grisham's The Judge's List. Do you expect to do much reading between now and the end of the year? If so, what's on your TBR (to be read) list?  I have a few on hold that should be ready by next Friday.  The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowly Heller, Final Girls by Riley Sager, and Every Last Fear by Alex Finlay.  Daisy Jones and the Six might be ready before I have to return to school also.

9) Random Question: What is the longest line you ever stood in, and was it worth it?  I think it was the DMV during the 2020 Covid summer.  I was there a long time and it was after the shut down and everyone was trying to get their items taken care of.  I was renewing my driver's license, so yes, it was worth it.  I was able to wait in my car.  They didn't want anyone around each other.

Sunday Stealing- League of Extraordinary Penpals

 1. What are your plans for December?   I have two more weeks of school and then we start

Christmas Break.  I am going to get in some reading during that time off from
work.  We have a family Christmas dinner tonight (Mexican) at the restaurant
Josh works at.  I am excited about that because of the food.  I want to go and
see some Christmas Lights and I am finally getting my hair cut and colored.
It has been since July and I have a lot of gray right now.

2. How do you celebrate your wins/success?  go out to eat, either with friends
or family.

3. Are holiday movies only for the holiday season?  I think no, but I mostly only
watch them during the holidays.  I think for me it makes the holiday more
special. I think Josh has a few movies picked out for us to watch over my break.

4. What would you consider a waste of money?  I am going to skip this because
what I think is a waste may be very important to you.  I think that is personal.

5. What do you like to eat for breakfast?  I like biscuits and gravy, but I also
enjoy eggs and toast also.  I think breakfast is so yummy.  If I eat breakfast
though, it is at school with the kids.  I rarely eat breakfast at home.

6. How do you feel about poetry?  I enjoy some of it.  It is really good to use
when you are teaching kids how to read.  On a deeper level, I like a good poem.

7. Are you shy?  I am kind of.  I am a person that is a bit reserved/shy when I
first meet people, but once I get to know them and trust them, I am very chatty.

8. Do you take time to reflect on your goals?  I do usually during my prayer time
or right before.

9. Something you are curious to know more about?  I am not sure, but I love
to learn about almost anything.

10. Something that makes you feel fancy.  Sometimes my clothes make me feel
fancy and my beauty products.  I love my hair and make-up products
and lotions.

11. How you’re still handling the pandemic?  I try not to think about it.  I did
last year when I went back to work and I was super nervous, but I have been
ok so far.  It is out of my control.  I have done everything I can to protect myself.
I do not watch the news very often either.  Here is the Bible verse I live by:

12. A close friend you’ve never met in person?  When I had my country graphics
website, I became friends with several of the ladies.  One of them is Susan.
I have a friend that I talked to on the phone a lot.  Her name is Kat.  I would
write her letters when I would go on vacation or to visit my Grandparents.
That was back in the day when I did not have a laptop or internet access or
even a cell phone.  I think many of us talked on the phone and I would get so
sad knowing I would never meet these precious ladies.  One of them told me
we would all meet in heaven and she is so right. In fact, some of you knew Toni
and she is waiting for us there now.  Anyway, I have many friends I have never
met in person and that includes all of you reading here today.  We may not
be close, but I think about you all and wish you well.

13. Do you get in on trends early or later?  Later.  I usually hate things at first.  I
do not do well with change sometimes.  Then I finally get on board and it goes
out of style and I have to start over.

14. What is something you do on a regular basis?  I am very routine oriented so I can
be running on time.  I do a lot of things regularly.

15. Do you enjoy spending time with family?  I enjoy spending time with my mom
and my dad when he was alive.  I can take everyone else in spoonfuls.  My
husband's family gets on my nerves.  They are so loud and yell all of the time.

Saturday 9: Got My Mind Set on You

I Got My Mind Set on You

Saturday 9: Got My Mind Set on You (1976)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) George Harrison sings that he requires money, patience and time. Which of those three do you wish for most this morning? I am going to go with money since it is Christmas.  I am always wanting more time too...but I will say money.

2) This was long one of George's favorite songs. He first heard it back in September, 1963 -- months before the Beatles became an international phenomenon -- when he visited his sister in Benton, IL. Is there a song that reminds you of a trip you took?  no and music is so important to me, but I do not remember much music from trips.  I think we are always busy doing things or visiting.

3) For years, George thought his birthday was February 25. When he was 17, he saw his birth certificate and learned he was really born on the 24th. His mother explained that he was born just before midnight on the 24th and she didn't get to hold him until early morning on the 25th, so she considered the 25th as his birthday. Do you know any interesting stories about the day you were born?  I am adopted, so no.  I know I was born on a Wednesday from looking at calendars.

4) When George was just 14, he met Paul McCartney on a bus en route to school. Tell us about a time when you met someone who ended up changing your life.  I walked into church and was on my way to sing in the church choir when one of the guys from choir came and asked me if I would like to go and see a musical with him.  I believe it was Cats.  I told him I did not know him well enough to go out with him, so we got to know one another through our mutual friends and eventually I did go out with him.  We went to see The Music Man.  That is how I met my husband Karl.

5) Then 17, John Lennon was not interested in letting George perform with his band. He dismissed George as too young. Paul insisted George get a chance and the rest, as they say, is history. Tell us about someone who stood up for you and helped you succeed.  I will say my co-workers at school.  The administrators are always so kind as to help me along and get me good teacher training.  They tell me the good things I am doing in the classroom and give suggestions on how to improve.  I feel like they do such a great job at helping all the teachers succeed.

6) In the 1970s, George took up gardening. He said that clearing away weeds and overgrowth helped him clear his head, and he was very proud of his jasmine flowers. What's your hobby? Why do you enjoy it?  I enjoy reading.  I love how it helps me relax and I always enjoy a good story.  I am a bit of a book addict.  Ok, speaking of George's Jasmine flowers...that is my favorite flower scent.  I love Night Blooming Jasmine from Bath and Body Works.  I also have some body butter that is called Joy and Jasmine from The Body Shop.  It is glorious.

7) He also enjoyed playing ukulele and encouraged others to do the same. George often gave ukuleles as birthday and Christmas gifts. What's the last gift you received?  One of my co-worker's gave me a body lotion set this week for Christmas.  It smells so nice.

8) At the Academy Awards in spring 1976, another George was in the news. George Burns won an Oscar for his performance in The Sunshine Boys. Who was in the last movie you watched?  Cameron Mathison and Jennie Garth.  They were in a Christmas movie called A Kindred Christmas on GAC channel on our Frndly streaming service.

9) What's the last thing you dropped? Did it break?  I dropped some glitter on the floor the other day, it did not break, but some spilled out on the floor.  I did a lot of glitter art projects this week.  The kids loved it.
