Saturday 9- Molly Malone

http://samanthasaturday9.blogspot.com/

Molly Malone

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) Are you of Irish descent?  I am adopted, so not sure.

2) Legend has it that the heroine of this week's Irish ballad was a real lass. 17th century birth and burial records confirm that a woman with that name lived in Dublin. Can you think of another song about a real historic figure?  The only song coming to mind is Elton John's Goodbye England's Rose about Princess Diana.

3) Molly sold fish from a cart that she wheeled through the streets. What's the last seafood you ate?  fish

4) The lyrics tell us that, after her death, her ghost continues to wander the streets of Dublin with her wheel barrow. Do you believe in ghosts?  I haven't had any experiences with them.

5) This week's featured band, The Dubliners, are obviously from Dublin. They were introduced to American audiences on The Ed Sullivan Show. Today, Stephen Colbert tapes his show in The Ed Sullivan Theater. Who hosted the last talk show you watched?  Probably Kathie Lee and Hoda.

6) Corned beef and cabbage is a traditional St. Patrick's Day dish. Is it a favorite of yours?  no

7) According to Irish legend, leprechauns earned the gold in the pot they guard by repairing shoes. Crazy Sam can't remember the last time she got a pair of shoes repaired. When the heels wear away, she discards the shoes and buys new ones. What about you? Do you get your shoes fixed (either by leprechauns or just by ordinary repairmen)?  I do not think I have ever had a pair of shoes fixed.  Is that expensive?  I would think it would be expensive.

8) Do you look good in green, the signature color of St. Patrick's Day?  I look ok, but I have green eyes, so I feel like that is a lot of green.  It was my favorite color in college, so I wore it all of the time.

9) Random question: Did you more recently sneeze or cough?  I believe sneeze...I am starting to have allergies.

  1. Morning Lori. Seems like most of us had fish Friday. LOL! Enjoyed reading your answers. My mind went blank for #2 and today I remember many of them. LOL! Have a blessed day my friend.

  2. "Candle in the Rain" started out being about Marilyn Monroe, so it's a song about a famous woman revised to be a song about another famous woman. It's the ultimate answer, isn't it? Wish I'd thought of it!

  3. I have to believe getting shoes repaired would be expensive. Back in high school my colors wore blue and kelly green.. and wore them all the time! Have a great weekend!

  5. My husband has had work boots repaired and it was expensive, but not as expensive as another pair of $225 work boots. I think the guy has gone out of business now, though, so no more repairs.

  6. I think it’s cool that you are adopted. My sister in-law is and we all did the ancestry, com thing to see what we are. I could not think of any songs about real historic figures. My eyes are hazel, but when I wear green, everybody comments that my eyes are green.

  7. T'is the season of allergies. We had thunderstorms last night that cleared the air the mold spores.

  8. Green eyes! Have you ever considered doing the DNA tests to learn more about your lineage? I am fascinated by my DNA findings. Repairing shoes is usually just some stitching or replacing heals and if the shoes are really good shoes, it is worth getting them repaired. Have a good weekend, Lori!

  10. That Elton John song is so beautiful. He writes some of the most tender and amazing songs.
Ghosts know who to leave alone. just kidding..

I think our old cobbler made special shoes, so he also took in repairs because it gave him interesting things to save, like sweet old work boots and stuff.

My daughters all got green eyes from both sides of the family. Green eyes are gorgeous!

  11. This was a fun bunch of questions and I enjoyed your answers. If you want to know your ancestry, I can testify to the accuracy of the Ancestry.com DNA tests. They matched my son with 2 people they said were his first cousins and forced my mom to tell me the name of my biological father after 54 years!
